In his first 100 days, Trump has turned around the economy, reduced immigration infiltration, stood strong against Russia and Syria, restored national confidence in the Supreme Court, initiated the strongest program ever for black higher education, restored our world-wide reputation for leadership, and exposed the weak RINOism of the Republican Party. I think he's hit a grand slam home run and anxious for more chances at the plate.

I'm not sure why Fox is giving air time to the new book about Hellary's failed campaign, but the Democrats seem to be blaming her loss on her sloughing off Trump's actual chance to win...fact is that Hellary and her campaign committee lost because she and her minions thought she was owed the presidency. From the " where is the humanity" department -- Thursday, my bride and I went to a fundraising event at the Columbus Museum..It was an art show that exhibited art created from a joint program of CSU and SafeHouse Ministries.. Participants from SafeHouse, under guidance of local master artists, Bo Bartlett and Garry Pound et al, presented their works, and supporters were able purchase such, with the new/budding artists benefiting financially from the sales of their works. It was a good event...with one exception...all the supporters buying such works were hit with having 8% SALES TAXES added to their participation in helping others. Mayor Tom-LYING-son should be embarrassed! Unfortunately, she won't be.

While I applaud Beyonce's gift to education.. perhaps she's the one that may need to learn to "think outside the box"... why limit the scholarships to the colleges of her choice?

How many days have you sat down and counted... and thanked God.. for all  your blessings.. and ran out of not only your fingers and toes, but strands of hair on your head? Yesterday was one of those days for me.. It was my 70th birthday.. I was greeted with a card from my bride "requesting" I be through with my morning blog routine by 8:15 as I was to be her guest for breakfast.. I smiled. Then, a hour before that time, the phone rang, and it was my daughter and granddaughter wanting to stop by before they went to work/school. They showed up a few minutes later, and I got a homemade cupcake with a marshmallow frosting with a chocolate dipped strawberry on top they had made.. and then it got better.. my 4-year, 363 day old granddaughter broke out in song with "Happy Birthday dear Big" ... Melt... Then the day got even better.. around 5:00.. my bride instructed me to change into shorts and good walking shoes.. I was "thinking" she was about to take me for a quick 9-holes at Godwin Creek before supper.. of course I was wrong.. then she handed me a gift box, and I unwrapped it to find a Relay for Life "Survivor" shirt.. I really hadn't thought about it that day, but the 12th Relay for Life event since I became 'cancer free' was going on last night, and I figured she wanted to walk a few laps before dinner with our family...You guessed it. I was wrong again.. Relay for Life WAS my birthday dinner with friends and family. My  bride had been sneaking around on me for a couple of days, and she, with the help of friends and family, had set up a Team Tent at A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium, complete with sandwiches, cupcakes, water and decorations. Of course I had no clue as we entered the stadium, but as we rounded the turn of our first walking lap.. I was greeted by my granddaughter running has hard as her legs could churn to greet me.. then all sorts of people I knew started appearing behind her, and grew during the evening as well wishers dropped by to "bless me". It's overwhelming to have a birthday party with such dear friends and family and hundreds upon hundreds sharing in our victory over cancer.. did I mention I love my bride?

One of the administrators of "Columbus, GA Concerned Citizens Forum" on Facebook (over 7,000 members strong) has suggested that our city is the most divided he's ever seen it..I agree. ...but for a different reason. He eels it is counterproductive.. I say:  Yes.. the city is divided.. but in this case.. it's a healthy divide! More citizens are getting involved to counter the adverse decisions being made in Council and our School system, and Columbus will thrive for it!

The honeymoon is over with Charter/Spectrum...Wednesday night I clicked to the Golf Channel..and was met with an "upgrade" message..Called support yesterday and found out I'd have to upgrade to their "sports package" for $12.00 a month..Told him no way..I'll just go back to my old service which offered me a lower price option with a 2 year contract. The Charter guy then said "but in 2 years they'll raise your rates.. I responded, "well, I had a three year deal with you that started in January which included "Golf Channel", and now you are going up in your rates after 3 months".. He offered a one month credit of the $12.00 to add Golf Channel, but I told him "no", I'd just wait until enough people felt like I do and drop Charter altogether...one month, and I'm gone again.

The Carmike buyout has just revealed what we can expect in the future.. and nit's not "bright". A group of mt Sunday School class met for "dinner and a movie" last night.. After a fun time and meal , we went to see "The Case For Christ" (two thumbs up) at the Hollywood 13.. Would you believe that "they" ran out of large AND  medium cups for drinks at the same time? Tis true, and they still charged over $5.00 for their small drink (I'd have given them away or made a "2-for-one" deal with the large popcorn). What really showed us what we can expect in the future is that management did not have the brains.. or inclination.. to simply send someone over to the Carmike 15 or Peachtree and PICK-UP some large and medium cups!

Yesterday, there was a wonderful picture of a number of seniors signing academic scholarships. The number $13,834,013.00 was the total earned by area seniors.. While $13, 834,013.00 is a great amount, it does need "parsing".. I inquired about the overall number of students who will be graduated from the MCSD this Spring, and was provided the number of 1,976.. I thought.. hmm... $13,834,013.00 divided by 1,976 is about $7.001.00. Now, since all the 1,976 graduates started out eligible to receicve HOPE or Zell Miller Scholarships when they were freshmen, and if all 1,976 ended up "qualified" for them, then if all finished high school with a 3.0 GPA they would have received $3,495.00 per semester (2 semesters equal $6,990.00 per year), or if they all earned 3,7 GPA (B+) they could get $4,600.00 per semester (2 semesters equal $9,200.00 per year). Therefore, if half the graduating seniors earned Hope Scholarships, and half earned Zell Miller Scholarships, the average "Lottery Paid Scholarships would be $4,047.50 per semester or 8,095. per year..and each year if they maintain their GPAs...That would total $15,995,720 that this years graduating seniors could have been awarded without applying for outside scholarships... and even more if they all won Zell Miller Scholarships ($18,179,200.00). And that could be PER ANNUM! Hey School Board.. set Dr Lewis' sights HIGHER!

Columbus Consumer Update: A week or so ago, I posted the extreme high prices of some North Columbus gas station prices for  "premium" gas.. I was thinking a little public exposure would embarrass them enough to get competive with the rest of the Columbus market.. Well,those gas stations across from the Welcome Center on Williams Road are charging $3.38 per gallon (up about 10-cents since last report) for premium/93 octane gas.. what a wonderful....NOT....way to welcome guests/passers-through to Columbus.

L-E headline: "COLUMBUS GOLF AUTHORITY * Public-private partnership urged to replace aging clubhouse" --  I heard about this effort last night, and if the numbers look right, I plan to help as a good public golf facility is a major benefit to our community.. but.. but is Bull Creek doing all it can to run a profitable business. Greens fees are definitely in need of parsing. Current fees are $38.00 with a Cart, and $19.00 if you walk. This is counter productive.. 70,000 18-hole rounds at $19.00 produces only $1.3 Million in revenues for the 36 hole complex... adding cart rental for all those rounds would generate another $1.3 Million.. and $2.6 million in revenues for golf on this complex is woefully low.. that also means that the complex cannot be maintained in a way that more interest is created for other tournaments/private events would find it attractive to bring in outside players/business clients. A good professional evaluation of the facilities/services could show how it could be better utilized, and at better (for the courses) playing rates.. which.. would probably eliminate having to go out and raise outside moneys to do so.

In fact, Brasfield & Gorrie, a Birmingham, AL corporation,  has so much much business in Columbus, they even rented out office space here.. I just wonder why a Columbus.. or at least a Georgia company, cannot be found to do these projects so Columbus and Georgia will benefit more from the revenues that Brasfield & Gorrie rake in.

I did learn something about the science of "ice" when I went to school (decades ago.. pre Common Crap Curriculum), amd one thing I learned is that if you calculate the space an ice cube occupies, that when it melts, the water occupies less space that the ice cube did.. It's an easy experiment.. just fill a glass with as many ice cubes as you can with out going over the top.. now, wait for it to melt, and the water level will be well below the rim..Ice.. whether it be cube form or glacier form has a great deal of air trapped within it. ,, So,, if you are measure the mass of an ice cube or a glacier, the results will be the same.. now, how does that calculate into "the scientist's calculations"?
 
Oh.. one other thing.. how much of the "8 inches since 1880" can be accounted for by earth settling because of earthquake movements?

I was stunned to hear that locally, some $37 MILLION was to be spent on refurbishing local public housing.. Driving by Wilson Apartments daily, I see so much waste being added to those units.. Fake dormers are being nailed onto roofs, and high maintenance wood panels are being put over external low-maintenance brick walls. Please, tell me how any bureaucrat can defend such additions as cost efficient ways to spend taxpayer funded dollars..

As I was getting my 2018 car tag stickers yesterday, I happened to think about how many wheeled vehicles are legally required to use our roadways and obey traffic laws, except bicycles, and must pay annual property taxes and license fees.. I'm talking cars, trucks, private and commercial, plus motorcycles, scooters, trailers and buses.. Why aren't bicycles required to do the same..Not only do bicycles use our roads and highways, we get stuck with paying for building and maintaining special lanes and signs. Time is right to make adult bicycle users responsible for using public thoroughfares!

It's bad enough that a City employee who lives in Alabama gets a reserved parking space at the Citizens' Center, but why on earth should we see cars with Alabama plates parked in the Citizens' Center parking lot..what business could an Alabama citizen have in the Columbus, GA Citizens' Center?

If Mayor Tom-LYING-son wants to attract new businesses, she should be praising the tax freeze for new citizens to Columbus.. and addressing such eyesores along major arteries that carry travelers and commuters  through the heart of the City.. I recommend she start on Veterans Parkway starting at River Road and continuing down to the Civic Center.. There's enough barbed-wire and razor wire to give the impression that businesses cannot trust public safety to stop criminals, and businesses that have the ugliness of their businesses in full display of every vehicle driver/passengers. From an economic perspective.. wouldn't it be more economical for other counties (which are OBVIOUSLY closer to other area youth detention facilities than Muscogee County) to send their juvies to the centers that our deputies have to transport our to because beds are reserved for other counties that aren't actually using/needing them ?

On another issue.. did the MCSD actually realize that the RYDC was named for Judge Cohn when it named a middle school in his honor? I'm looking at a list of Macy's stores set to close this year, and I am stunned at the number of.. actually the SMALL number of employees associated with each unit.. one in Portland, OR of 246,000 sq ft has 85 "associates". No wonder retail stores are closing.. even considering management helping on the floor, eacxh employee/associate would have to cover almost 2900 square feet every hour from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM 7 days a week and have no days off, no lunch hours, and no bathroom breaks. Combined with clothing racks that overstuffed and too close together to walk between, no wonder customers have abandoned brick and mortar facilities. Oh, and one in North Hollywood, CA was 475,000 sq ft and had but 105 "associates".. that's 1 for every 4,523 sq ft..

Was reading an article about the Best 50 public high schools in GA. Was proud, but not surprised,  to see that Columbus High was ranked 2nd in the state, but was even more pleasantly surprised at some facts about CHS's student body..Of the 1,292 students, 60 percent are young women, and 82% of all students are minorities.. Now, since 82% are minorities, why aren't the overall minority children's test scores higher in the elementary/middle school "feeding system"?

It's always been my understanding that local SPLOST referendums contained a 5-year maximum window for revenue collecting.. and it's right that such cap is maintained. WAY below) the 30 day threshold.

L-E headline: "Calendar vote, school millage rate on agenda" -- You know, my senior year in high school.. Columbus High 64-65 to be exact, this was our calendar schedule:
1st day of school - September 7th,,
Thanksgiving holidays - Nov 26th and 27th
Christmas holidays - December 18th - Jan 2nd (January 1st, 1965 was on a Saturday so we went back on the following Monday)
Easter Break - dismissal  Wednesday Noon  April 14th , return Monday April 19th
Last Day of school - June 3rd
Graduation Day - June 7th.

We got everything in that families needed we did not "have" air conditioning, and the MCSD did not have the huge August electric bills it has today. You know, in 1990, the MCSD budget was a total of $54,000,000.00, and of that, $9,000,000.00 was for salaries/benefits that the GA DOE deemed "unnecessary" personnel.
