Online headline/story: "Ore. Congressman David Wu Explains Mental Health Issues * PORTLAND, Ore. - An Oregon congressman whose erratic behavior has recently prompted calls for his resignation said Sunday that some of his actions could be attributed to a reaction to a mental health drug. * U.S. Rep. David Wu told The Associated Press, however, that it does not explain the behavior documented in reports over the last month, which included sending his staff photos of himself wearing a tiger costume." -- If Wu had been a Republican, even an Independent, it would have been blasted across the headline. Even worse is that this was known by Oregon voters and they still re-elected him. Guess he's considered 'normal' for a DUMB&DUMBERat.

Whoa! We bought some Girls Scout cookies this past weekend, and really felt "cheated". They're now $3.50 a box, but what they've done to the size of the cookies is preposterous. The Tagalongs Peanut Butter Patties are a good example of false advertising; if you think the cookie inside resembles the cookie on the box photograph, you will be wrong, and either the Thin Mints should be named "Thinner Mints" or there are fewer cookies in the box as there is at least 15% 'air space' between the 2 stacks and the box dimensions. From now on, I'm just donating to the local group, so all the money stays here.

A sign of the litigious times: The one paragraph law on the books to control 'panhandling' on the streets of Columbus has a replacement proposal of 14 paragraphs. Unfortunately, the more specific the wording is in a law, the easier it is to 'parse' one's way out of being in violation of the law. It started when XPOTUS Clinton asked us to define "is".

L-E headline: "ABC’s ‘20/20’ to air interview with Charlie Sheen on Tuesday " -- Talk about a unique opportunity..we can ignore a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see/hear the vacuous interview the vacuous.

L-E story: "CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A Massachusetts biotechnology company says it can produce the fuel that runs Jaguars and jet engines using the same ingredients that make grass grow. " Ooops, my bad. Thought maybe the California Marijuana Growers Association had perfected the by-product use.

Do you realize there will be Mardi Gras revelers who will not be recovering in time to 'celebrate' St Patrick's Day?

When you think about it (and even if you're a closet liberal and 'feel' rather than think), when Emporer Imam-a had his Tsar DA file suit against Arizona because of Arizona's tough new immigration law, Emporer Imam-a has knowingly taken the side of Mexican drugs lords against the safety of Arizona.

Now that we've had a few days to digest that one of our Recorder Court judges knowingly set a bond/bail amount on an illegal alien amongst us, why did Council reappoint that judge?
---
L-E headline: "GOP governors undermine Obama agenda * Democrats say short-term tactic hurts long-term economic recovery" -- What bias! Also, what B__S! As the future sees it, GOP governors are just trying to protect their States' right as cited in the US Constitution prohibiting the Emporer Imam-a administration's assault on our 1st and 10th Amendments (others, too, but not so flagrantly as 1 & 10).

Online headline: "Wash. Couple Rescued After 4 Days Trapped in Snow" -- Ooops, my bad. Thought the White House had been pummeled by another blanket of "Global Warming".

Online story: "DUBLIN - A tidal wave of public anger has swept Ireland's opposition Fine Gael party to the brink of power and crushed the party that took the country to the edge of bankruptcy, an exit poll indicated Saturday." -- Sounds like instant replay of 2010 election (and to be continued in 2012) in our country. Now if we could get the Boston Irish on board to oust Barney Frank ....
---
Online headline: "Gadhafi Said to Be Arming Civilian Supporters" -- Aren't we glad our forefathers gave this right to all of us! Can't you imagine Emporer Imam-a deciding not to support the Second Amendment as he has with illegal immigration and the Defense of Marriage Act. You know, I think I'm going out to buy another gun next week just to make sure all my family can defend themselves if need be...and because we can.

No matter what the outcome of the Parks&REC crimes. what really needs to be revealed is who at CB&T authorized the account to be opened with the City of Columbus' exemption, but not with authority from the City of Columbus. It will happen only if Ledger-Enquiring minds want to know. I have a hunch.

L-E story: "WASHINGTON — Ratcheting up the pressure, President Barack Obama on Saturday said Moammar Gadhafi has “lost the legitimacy to rule” Libya and said the embattled leader needs to do the right thing by “leaving now.” -- Hmm, sorta like a potUS calling a kettle black?

L-E headline: " House of Dior suspends Galliano * Creative director allegedly made anti-Semitic slur during bar spat" -- Men...look at this picture, and ask yourself, "Would you knowingly buy clothes created by this man? "
Not me..

For a man who refers consistently to the fact that we are a nation of laws, Emporer Imam-a sure seems to be selective about the ones he thinks should be enforced while announcing the ones he wants to ignore. Witness illegal aliens, including his Auntie Zeituni (who seems to have disappeared), and now DOMA.

What most governments, whether local, state or federal, seem to be slow at recognizing, is that when there is a problem in incoming revenue, their current and past practices are the problem. When 78-80% of costs for a program are for salaries/benefits/administrative costs, personnel cuts and salary cuts are going to have to happen if there's any chance at restabilizing itself at a smaller level. There is no alternative for another stable government stepping in and 'buying out' a floundering government similar to what will probably happen with Synovus.

Online headline: "'Parker Spitzer' TV Talk Show Breaks Up: She Goes, He Stays' -- Knew it wouldn't work...Spitzer's not use to seiing a woman $4-5,00.00 an hour without him getting personal gratification, but he probably can get that by himself.
---
L-E headline: "Combined sewer repair project could close Second Avenue between 11th, 12th for 90 days, officials say" -- Why is this still an issue? The CWW held a gun to our heads back in the early mid-90s saying we had to either pass a bond or see our rates triple so the CWW could repair/replace the entire "combined sewer overflow (CSO)' problem. We bit the bullet, passed the bond, and the CWW did not do what it promised. On another note, our rates have at least tripled since then.

I just heard an ABC announcer refer to some Washington, DC Libyan's as "Libyan-Americans"...excuse me? Are they not African-Americans? I mean, we do not refer to Kenyan-Americans, or Nigerian-Americans, or Mali-Americans, do we?

L-E headline: "Plug pulled on season of Sheen’s sitcom " -- Hmmm, a case of another Emporer O-babble supporter losing hundreds of other people's jobs.

L-E "soundoff": " Why is it that Fort Benning residents can attend the magnet schools out of district and do not have to pay, and we as teachers and residents of Georgia, who pay Georgia taxes, do?" -- You know, this is why students have difficulties learning about like when attending our local school system. This and many other teachers don't 'get it'. No other GA residents ware able to live in one county (nor are any Alabama residents) , and send their students to schools in another district/state legally without paying an out-of-country/state fee. Now this teacher wants to complain about our military families serving her/him. Trace/locate, and fire this teacher...fast!
---
Another L-E "soundoff": " If the lottery cannot meet the obligations of HOPE, HOPE must be cut back. I am sorry to those affected. Prior to 1993, we had to work and pay for our own college educations." -- Lot of truth here, but the main victim of the lottery has been the hard working families who don't play the lottery. The lottery has escalated the quantity and pay scale of college professors, especially in freshman classes, to uncontrollable amounts because once the professors are tenured they are in the system forever (basically), and too many are there to teach remedial classes for students who were 'given' 3.0 averages so they could go to college for 1 semester/year.
---
L-E headline: "Government budget cuts pose threat to recovery " -- "Threat to recovery"? Government budget cuts are the only way to recovery! Private industry floundering to support government growth is the threat to recovery!

Though they already cringe at the thought of admitting that Bill O'Reilly presents the truth in a succinct manner, teachers, and politicians in general, will not like his summation in today's L-E.

I'm glad the GA Sports Hall of Fame has tapped Bill Ploeger....finally. What took so long?
---
L-E headline: "WASHINGTON — Economic growth for the final three months of last year was revised downward to an annualized rate of 2.8 percent by government statisticians Friday, another indication of the struggling recovery from the recession as turmoil in the Middle East threatens further problems." -- That's the problem with this administration's advisors... they're in Washington! If any saw what I saw this past Monday as I watched the plethora of loaded trucks leaving and entering Atlanta, those so-called experts would know what is going on.
---
I see a very big problem with "Black History Month" in schools. It seems that the schools basically repeat everything each February rather than expand and teach about more men and women who have quietly raised the standards affecting the whole world. One such man, Dr. A Seale Harris is probably not even in the data-base. He worked out of Tuskegee Institute, and his discoveries and conclusions are still the main building blocks in dealing with diabetes.

Online headline/story: "Piece by Piece, Obama Undoing President Bill Clinton's Actions * DADT and DOMA "happened on his watch but they were not what he wanted," said Richard Socarides, president of the advocacy group Equality Matters and a former Clinton White House adviser on gay rights. "Clinton's record is what it is. He did some great things on gay rights and did these things that's taken a long time to get out from under." -- "happened on his watch but they were not what he wanted"? Clinton, as well as Carter and Emporer Imam-a have happened (what a good time to revive late Mayor Jernigan's "favorite" bumpersticker, Sh*t Happens) 'on my watch', and none of them were what I wanted.

Online headline/story: "Ben & Jerry's 'Natural' Claims Still an Issue * So is this politically correct ice cream "all-natural"? The phrase has no official meaning, but as the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) reported last summer, "At least 48 out of 53 flavors of Ben & Jerry's 'All Natural' ice cream and frozen yogurt contain alkalized cocoa, corn syrup, partially hydrogenated soybean oil or other ingredients that either don't exist in nature or that have been chemically modified." -- No wonder Ben & Jerry's was the choice amongst the liberals; it's a classic DUMB&DUMBERat campaign based on saying what ever you want without having any proof that what you say is factual.

WTVM9 report: " COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) This time last year Chris Johnson wouldn't have been able to hear the sounds the wind chime on his front porch because of disruptive neighbors. Now he says things are a lot quieter in Bibb City." -- We know it's not because of Mayor Obamalinson, she just took office, but I do recall that the two highest crime districts in Columbus were the one featuring Comer Auditorium and an abutting district. Hmmmm, wonder if the "Clandestine Baketball League", headquartered out of Comer, being shut down has also shut down other crimes?

L-E headline: "Whitewater project to benefit Bibb City, Tomlinson says" -- I know she's new on the job, and "not from around here", but will someone tell Mayor Obamalinson that officially, this is no Bibb City anymore.

Online headline/story: "Obama, Administration Officials Meet with Small-Business Owners * At a "Winning the Future" event in Cleveland, the president and several members of his cabinet fielded questions and concerns from business owners. * In his opening remarks, Obama stressed that the primary purpose of the visit was to allow business owners to voice their concerns and ideas. "I did not come to Cleveland to talk," the president said. "Instead I came here to listen." -- Hmmm, it's ironic that the "Winning the Future" slogan is straight from a Newt Gingrich book title, but we also know Emporer Obama doesn't know how to listen, so what's his point?
---
Emporer Obama's desire to push government backed SBA start-up loans to businesses without fixed assets reeks of the formula flaws that caved in the housing market through Fannie Mae backed mortgages to buyers without adequate assets and/or income to afford such loans. Just more nannyism.

Online story: "NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The U.S. Treasury is giving up $14 billion in tax revenue because of a sweetheart deal it's giving General Motors. * That break will reduce GM's U.S. tax bill by an estimated $14 billion in the coming years, and its global taxes by close to $19 billion, according to a company filing. * Companies typically get a break on future taxes because of past losses. But in most cases they lose that tax break during bankruptcy, because the losses are offset by the "income" the company receives from shedding its debt. * While it's unclear why GM was allowed to carry over its losses, some experts insist that GM got preferential treatment." -- GM got preferential treatment? Not exactly...the unions got preferential treatment. Now, we'll get to see if private right-to-work corporations get the same exemptions for carry-over losses when there's a rush to bankruptcy for them to shed their accumulated debts.

Of course the Library would like some vintage, collectable books from old Southern authors, but is that the best use for such collectibles? Who wants to donate a bonafied piece of history only to see it sold off, or destroyed by abuse, or just turn up "missing" from the book shelves? Older books are not going to survive the rigors of a check-out system. The Library would probably serve us better by making those classics available for download to new "electronic books" or by stocking computer reprints.

Looking at the summary of news items around the world, some of us remember the late 50's ditty from the Kingston Trio:
There are days in my life when everything is dreary
I grow pessimistic, sad and world weary.
But when I'm tearful and fearfully upset
I always sing this merry little minuet:
They're rioting in Africa
They're starving in Spain
There's hurricanes in Florida
And Texas needs rain.
The whole world is festering
With unhappy souls
The French hate the Germans,
The Germans hate the Poles
Italians hate Yugoslavs
South Africans hate the Dutch
And I don't like anybody very much
But we can be grateful
And thankful and proud
That man's been endowed
With a mushroom shaped cloud
And we know for certain
That some happy day
Someone will set the spark off
And we will all be blown away
They're rioting in Africa
There's strife in Iran
What nature doesn't do to us
Will be done by our fellow man. -- Some things haven't, nor will ever, change.

It's not one world, and Emporer Imam-a wants us to embrace Muslims as he has. I think not.

DUMB&DUMBERAT politicos are have walked out of their state house buildings in Wisconsin and Indiana. That just goes to prove that DUMB&DUMBERATs are exactly who they claim themselves to be..the party against hard work.

Regarding the new HOPE outline: "State Sen. Vincent Fort said that family income should be taken into account, with top earners ineligible. " -- Even if you didn't know for sure before now, Senator Fort is obviously a DUMB&DUMBERat. Senator Fort obviously hasn't had a child turn 18 in recent years, or he'd know that when they do, no state agency or school will talk with a student's parents about what the parents want to talk about. If GA agencies and schools want to leave the parents out of the decision making, then those same agencies need to learn they cannot consider the parents' income the property of the students.

From L-E story: " (Former Councilor Julius) Hunter, who previously served as a recorder pro tem, said Monday that he would still be interested in a position (Recorder's Court judgeship) once he becomes eligible and if there is an opening. * “It was something I enjoyed doing,” Hunter said. “If there’s an opening in the future, I would like to take a look at it at that time. But it can’t happen until next year.” -- "Next year"? I hope someone brings this to the attention of Council in 4 YEARS when the job is open for appointment again! We certainly don't need a judge that doesn't know the very law that creates the job.

If a maximum of $6.500.00 is spent per 40 homes, the total expenditure would be 'only' $260,000.00; where is the other $140,000.00 going?

From L-E's "Looking Back" section: " A baby twister dipped out of leaden skies yesterday about 4 p.m. and took a lusty punch at a small section of Muscogee County some six miles east of the downtown Columbus area. * No one was injured, but the tornado unroofed a garage, uprooted some trees, snapped off the tops of other trees, snapped some power lines and caused damage of several hundred dollars." -- "damage of several hundred dollars"? My how the dollar has shrunk.

From the "for what it's worth" department: Things should be looking up. Went to Dahlonega, GA Monday for a day trip. Saw the most truck activity on I-85 in and out of Atlanta than I've seen in a couple of years. Trucks seems to be rolling again. That's a good sign for our economy.

This week they were killed by Somali pirates. Wonder if the Adams and their friends would be alive if they were distributing Qurans.

---
Regarding the new HOPE outline: "State Sen.

L-E headline: "Man accused of shoplifting steaks in pants " -- Well, he'd gotten charged with some other law violations if he hadn't been wearing pants... Wish the L-E would hire one of its employees back,, you know, the one responsible for proofing/editing headlines.
---
From L-E story: " (Former Councilor Julius) Hunter, who previously served as a recorder pro tem, said Monday that he would still be interested in a position (Recorder's Court judgeship) once he becomes eligible and if there is an opening.

L-E headline/story: "40 homes will get repairs paid for by stimulus funds * Using $400,000 from the economic stimulus program, the city of Columbus has teamed up with ESP to assess the needs and repair homes in targeted redevelopment areas of Beallwood, Second Avenue, The Medical Center, East Highland and Lawyers Lane * Officials expect to spend up to $6,500 per home with new weather stripping, sealing around plumbing fixtures and in some rare cases replacing the furnace, Robinson said." -- Has anyone else done the math on this? If a maximum of $6.500.00 is spent per 40 homes, the total expenditure would be 'only' $260,000.00; where is the other $140,000.00 going?
---
From L-E's "Looking Back" section: " A baby twister dipped out of leaden skies yesterday about 4 p.m. and took a lusty punch at a small section of Muscogee County some six miles east of the downtown Columbus area. * No one was injured, but the tornado unroofed a garage, uprooted some trees, snapped off the tops of other trees, snapped some power lines and caused damage of several hundred dollars." -- "damage of several hundred dollars"? My how the dollar has shrunk.
---
From the "for what it's worth" department: Things should be looking up. Went to Dahlonega, GA Monday for a day trip. Saw the most truck activity on I-85 in and out of Atlanta than I've seen in a couple of years. Trucks seems to be rolling again. That's a good sign for our economy.

L-E headline/story: "Former councilor Julius Hunter not yet eligible to take judicial post now held by Cielinski * Sometime around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, a reader posted a comment on the story pointing out that the city’s charter prohibits former councilors from holding paid positions with the city for one year after their departure from council." -- Guess it's a toss up as which group should be the most embarrassed for not catching this 'detail'.. Council, for obvious reasons, or the L-E staff for not being the community watchdog a good paper should be. Give Judy Thomas a 'heads up.

Online story from American Family Association: "Said Musa is a former Muslim who converted to Christ about eight years ago. He has been sentenced to die by the Afghan government for the Islamic crime of apostasy. * A spokesman for the so-called Ministry of Justice said, "The sentence for a convert is death and there is no exception." * This is one of the truly terrible things about Islam: it has no respect for freedom of religion and conscience, precious values for us in the West." -- This is the same Muslim philosophy Emporer Obama/Imam-a wants the US to embrace as he does.

The Wisconsin protestors are bringing to the light just how over-enabled, over-aggressive government worker groups have become. For a long time I have been an advocate to rule government employees should not be eligible to vote in elections that directly influence the level of their paychecks and benefits; they are a bloc of too close to the issue voters.
---
I am still dumfounded that our government and the drive by media cannot add 2+2 and get 4. When will Presidents and media learn that a woman Secretary of State is not ever going to be an effective liaison between our government and any Muslin country where women are ranked lower than the family dog.

Online story: "WASHINGTON -- Scientists have estimated the first cosmic census of planets in our galaxy and the numbers are astronomical: at least 50 billion planets in the Milky Way." -- "Estimated"? Aren't these the same guys that won't believe in God's existence unless they can see it with there own eyes?

Heard someone (with a personal interest, of course) try to compare the Wisconsin uproar with the citizens of Egypt protesting the autocratic Mubarak regime. Excuse me? The Mubarak regime was more closely comparable to the demands of the union protestors who want the average citizen to keep them in a lifestyle that exceeds the average citizen's capability, and those protestors are fighting to keep more than their 'fair share' of other people's money.

L-E headline: "Wisconsin governor takes on unions " -- Well, what did they expect? After years of taxpayer abuse, the taxpayers voted for "Hope and Change" they could believe in!

Online story: "Another endangered whooping crane -- part of a breeding program to repopulate the species -- was found shot to death in the marshes of Alabama, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said. This is not only wrong, it's INSANE!

A "soundoff" from the L-E: " The same people who demand all public references to Christianity be banned lecture us that it’s our “Christian duty” to involuntarily redistribute our money, including to slackers who refuse to work." -- Couldn't have said it better.. or more succinct.. myself.

There's a car dealer offering to pay your 7% sales taxes if you buy a car from it today. I hope other buyers haven't been paying 7% sales tax on their purchases, because the sales tax on a new car is only 6%. The last LOST tax exempted cars and hotel rooms from the new tax. Also, if he's been collecting the tax, I hope the dealer has been sending in the extra tax rather than pocketing it.

L-E story: "Defense attorneys (for Sticarlo L. Vanderson) have cried foul. William Kendrick, the Columbus defense attorney who brokered the plea deal for Vanderson, said he never anticipated federal interest in the case, and that he failed to inform his client that a guilty plea could be used against him. * “In my experience, I have never had federal prosecution initiated against a client after the resolution of the case,” Kendrick, 28, said in court filings." -- The 28 year attorney is arguing based on his experience as an attorney? Is he talking about how many months or days he's been an attorney? Fortunately, for the rest of us, he'll 'never' be able to say he's 'never had federal prosecution initiated against a client after the resolution of the case' again.
---
L-E story: "The discussion Tuesday will more likely dwell on the way Cielinski conducts Recorder’s Court business. How well he does that depends on who’s talking. * “He’s rude,” said one defense attorney who would speak only on condition of anonymity. “It’s been my experience that he is rude and disrespectful much of the time -- to defendants, lawyers and police.” -- Anyone who will only demean another from the shadows of anonymity is simply, in a word, a coward. "Mr/Ms anonymous defense (well, actually, kinda offensive) attorney" is upset that Judge Cielinski is not politically correct to him/her. Considering the anonymous circumstances, Judge Cielinski is right on target for the rights of the community to feel safe, and that justice is being cared for.

Hear about the Iowa teenaged wrestler who forfeited his match because the Politically Correct Police decided to let teenaged girls wrestle in the boy's competition? There was a rumored story out that OJ Simpson was brutally beaten up in his Nevada jail (sorry, no truth in the matter), but it does ask me to wonder that since OJ is serving a 33 year sentence for armed robbery, what happens to the NFL pension ($320K annually, I believe) he receives?

Why is it that the Council is going to authorize $17 Million dollars for an out-of-town construction company to correct the flooding situation around 6th Avenue? Wasn't that supposed to be fixed in the early-mid 1990's by our own Columbus Water Works when we were blackmailed in to passing a huge amount of bond issues to correct the whole water/sewer system?

Did anyone from the Council ask if anyone actually analyzed this contract: "COLOR PHOTOCOPIER FOR PRINT SHOP AND GIS DIVISIONS (ANNUAL CONTRACT): It is requested that council approve the contract for the rental of five color photocopiers: one unit for the Planning Department, two units for the Print Shop, and two units for the GIS Divisions, from The Overby Company, (Columbus) at a lease cost of $.0709 cents per color copy and $.007 cents per black/white copy. The estimated combined copy volume will be approximately 250,913 color copies, and 305,938 black/ white copies per year." ? -- Knowing the higher cost of color ink consumables, shouldn't there be a significant difference in the prices between color and black/white copy costs?

House Republicans said they would not approve another stop-gap measure without deep cuts, and approved $61 billion in reductions Saturday to this year’s budget. President Obama and the Democrats who control the Senate strongly oppose the House GOP approach. * The Constitution and U.S. statutes prohibit agencies from operating without an express appropriation from Congress, meaning a lapse in funding would trigger layoffs and fractures in services. * President Barack Obama and Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., each said last week that a shutdown today would delay Social Security checks and disrupt services considered vital to millions of Americans." -- Oh, so the DUMB&DUMBERat position is that we have to blindly waste more money to spend more wasted money? " -- Brilliant..NOT! In a world of reality, who doesn't notice and focus on the unique abilities of hummingbirds when they flit into one's viewing area, and what pigeon would be safe from being thought to be 'dinner' in any 3rd World country where such spying abilities would be used? Speaking of budget cuts that can be made in GA that will have an impact: There's an innocuous building on the corner of 5th Ave and 12th Street that has 18+/- vans with government plates and C.T.S marked on the sides of the vans. It took a while to get any of our local Representatives to respond (Thanks, Richard Smith), but as it turns out, C.T.S. is basically a taxpayer paid taxi service for New Horizons ( and I'm sure there are C.T.S. offices in all of our bigger cities). Why not close those offices which would save millions, and then let state government service operations who need such taxiing service contract with local private cab companies (or Metra) to transport the patients. Better yet, make those agencies investigate the patient situations and make families (when reasonable) be responsible for getting such patients to New Horizons (et al).

Last fall, Columbus (and other area) drivers were ticketed for parking along the 100 block median on Broadway as they participated in the UPtown Market Day activities. Of course, locking down our borders would help in this endeavor.

This is just a blatant example of the moral of the cobbler who's children had no shoes. Man up, Bernanke!

" -- Brilliant..NOT! In a world of reality, who doesn't notice and focus on the unique abilities of hummingbirds when they flit into one's viewing area, and what pigeon would be safe from being thought to be 'dinner' in any 3rd World country where such spying abilities would be used? Here are 2 items that can be cut from the budget...today!

L-E story: "A Columbus teen once charged with forcibly raping a 12-year-old girl pleaded guilty this week in juvenile court to statutory rape. * The 15-year-old was sentenced to three to five years behind bars, but defense attorneys said his sentence will be rescinded soon due to confusion about the severity of the charge. * Public defender Robert Wadkins called the sentence “a mistake,” adding the teen likely will receive a sentence of one to two months at a hearing later this month. * At the December hearing, defense attorneys pounced on the (12 year old) girl’s testimony, questioning her about why she concealed her pregnancy from her mother and failed to notify the authorities sooner. “Do you think you'd be in more trouble if you told your mother there wasn't any holding down” and that the sexual intercourse was consensual, defense attorney Frank Martin asked the girl during the hearing. -- Chances are that the 12 year old didn't even understand the signs she might be pregnant. 2 more of the 99% who give the other 1% of lawyers a bad rep.

L-E headline/story: "Stocking Strangler case: Prosecutors say DNA test on early rape would delay case * Prosecutors say testing in Miller’s case is unlikely to affect Gary’s convictions as required by Georgia’s post-conviction DNA testing law, which prohibits seeking testing just to delay an execution. * The motion filed Friday by District Attorney Julia Slater in part says, “it is apparent that such testing will not produce evidence which would create a ‘reasonable probability’ that defendant would be acquitted and would only result in further unnecessary delay in these proceedings.” -- This probably seems like piling on, but it also raises doubt as to whether a full 1% of lawyers still remain above the other 99%.

Last fall, Columbus (and other area) drivers were ticketed for parking along the 100 block median on Broadway as they participated in the UPtown Market Day activities. They were informed that that part of the street is a 'loading zone'. Yesterday, I saw 2 CPD cars park along the same median, and go to a restaurant to order/get take out lunches. I have utmost respect for our Police officers, but this in this case it would be proper for the City to refund all the parking ticket revenues that were taken from "regular' citizens for doing the same thing.

L-E story: " ACAPULCO, Mexico — Four men with their hands and feet tied and heads covered in duct tape were thrown 600 feet to their deaths from a bridge Friday, authorities said as Mexico’s increasingly bloody drug battles reached a new level of cruelty and intimidation." -- For all those "clear thinking" advocates for either legalizing drugs or relaxing drug law enforcement, this could be the scenario here in the US if we stop being diligent in stopping the spread. Of course, locking down our borders would help in this endeavor.

L-E story: " PARIS — Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on Friday urged countries with large trade surpluses, like China, to let their currencies rise in value to help prevent another global financial crisis. This is just a blatant example of the moral of the cobbler who's children had no shoes. Man up, Bernanke!

From a fellow BCer comes this after party picture: Can anyone find Mike Gaymon in it?

Online headline: "Fox News: Cops Arrest Suspect in Poisoning of Sacred Oaks" -- Boy! Tree huggers will unite to have the death sentenced imposed and carried out in an expeditious manner; maybe even string him up in one of those oak trees!
---
Online headline: "ABC's Miguel Marquez Attacked During Bahrain Protests" -- This, after the assault in Egypt on Lara Logan, and the beheading of Daniel Pearl, plus the disgusting manipulation of Saddam Hussein's atrocities by CNN, when is the liberal American media gonna realize that al-Qaida doesn't like them, and the Islamic realm in general doesn't like them either, but only use them to make terroristic attacks seem justified because of American arrogance?
---
Online story: "MADISON, Wis. -- A group of Wisconsin lawmakers blocked passage of a sweeping anti-union bill Thursday by ignoring orders to attend a vote and instead left the state to force Republicans to negotiate over the proposal. * Republicans hold a 19-14 majority, but they need at least one Democrat to be present before taking a vote on the bill." -- Where's the spirit of fair play...ooops, that one's not in the DUMB&DUMBERat playbook. If the D&D's 'feel' they are right, they should show up and vote against the bill, and if it's a bad one, campaign on it in 2012.

It's amazing... the City will curtail car/truck crossings on Hilton Avenue for safety reasons, but encourage bikers/hikers to do the same.
---
Now, if the City is truly interested in altering traffic movement in order to create a safer environment, it should address the eastbound exit traffic of the JR Allen Parkway exiting into 2nd Avenue from Phenix City. In a quarter mile or less, cars try to cross over to the 3rd lane to make a left turn on Manchester Expressway. Some will even come to a complete halt in the middle lane because the left turn lane is backed up for most of that quarter mile, and traffic from the westbound exit lane is forced to stop or exchange lanes to avoid hitting them. 2 possible solutions: 1 is to simply isolate the outside lane making traffic that wants to turn left at the light to go straight and turn at the 38th St light, or two, just eliminate left turns at Manchester Expressway during morning rush hour. One other solution would be to reroute the JR Allen exit at River Road to let traffic get off on the west side of River Road and take a right turn south rather than having to exit at the present set-up and try to make a left turn onto River Road,

L-E story: "The pace of layoffs in the Columbus metro area and much of Georgia appears to be steadily slowing, data released Thursday by the state indicate. * The Georgia Department of Labor reported that 2,127 Columbus-area residents filed unemployment claims for the first time in January, down 132 or 5.8 percent, from December. Columbus, Rome and Savannah were the only metro areas in the state to see a month-over-month decline." -- How does the GA Dept of Labor find such comfort in having "1st time" filings for unemployment claims be 5.8 % less than the month before? Let's face it, this month's "1st time" filers are IN ADDITION to each of the preceding months "1st time" filers!
---
When you think about it, the GA Dept of Labor is actually happy that more "1st time" filers happen each month. It makes their jobs 'more secure' because demand is up for their services, and when enough new filers file, it means the GA Dept of Labor will need to hire new associates. It's a vicious circle on the taxpayers.

L-E story: "For the first time in nearly a decade, officials had to tap the HOPE’s reserves this year, setting off a series of triggers designed to scale back the spending once the program began operating in the red. This fall, the $350-per-year book stipend for students on HOPE will be cut in half, and next year HOPE will no longer cover student fees. " -- Ooooh... so those mandatory $125.00 per student per semester fees for use of the CSU Spa Center aren't gonna get covered as anticipated... looks like every parent/student will basically be paying about $50 per month for a "gym fee" out-of-pocket whether they use it or not. What happens when student levels decline?

Thank goodness Governor Deal is looking into the lottery fund usages. When the lottery started, it was for the exclusive use of college scholarships, but you know how politicians are when they smell money and want to increase their chances for reelection...they diverted the original use to pay for free Pre-K programs (tax payer paid day-care), then for programs paying for technology and new buildings. Will someone analyze what the HOPE Scholarship condition would be in IF all the revenues had been contained for the original use of such?

I do wish the Sunday Liquor buying bill would be voted on in the GA House/Senate, and if it included a rider or amendment to stop dive-thru window sales of cold beer and other cold bottle/can alcohol drinks, I would support it for vote for local approval.

I'm glad the United Way Campaign was successful this year, but I think the expense of a public self-congratulatory festivity undermines how the donated money is spent/managed.

Online story: "Former Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold, regarded as liberal but independent during his three terms in the Senate, says he is starting a "progressive" movement to support like-minded candidates and fight the influence of corporate money in campaigns. * "As progressives, it's time we made our voices heard," the 57-year-old lawyer said." -- Typical liberal....just doesn't know either how to listen or accept what has been said. "Progressives" had their say in 2009-10 Congressional sessions, and the people didn't like what was said, and made wholesale "Change", and "Hope" for more "Change we can believe in" for 2012.

While the American flag at the Nissan dealership is indeed beautiful, I do wish the dealer would do one of two things: Put a proper sized flag on the flag pole, or buy a bigger flag pole that fits the size of the flag. L-E headline/story: "Georgia leaders support sentencing reform study * Deal cast the choice in stark financial terms: The state pays $3,800 a year to educate a child in public schools and $18,000 a year to incarcerate an inmate. The MCSD budget per child last year was between $9,000.00 and $9,500.00 per child. Don't get me wrong, I'm in favor of crime sentences to reduce the population we house on our tax dollars, but the simplest way to reduce that is to use the death sentence faster; that'll solve current problems as well as act as a crime deterrence for the future.

Edward Markey, D-Mass., standing next to a likeness of the popular children’s character. “We have to make sure we protect them here in Congress from the Republican attempt to completely and totally undermine the mission which public broadcasting has.” -- This just sums up the DUMB&DUMBERat concept of wasteful spending. "Save Arthur and all his pals' at the expense of the hardworking taxpayers who don't have the time to actually see "Arthur and his pals" on TV. I have one vehicle that is 25 years old, another that is 18 years old that function quite well in today's world of transportation as I have maintained and upgraded them as technology made sense. I'm almost surprised that the Library Board hasn't deemed the 20 year building as obsolete and needing full replacement. The voters need to put their feet down on giving the MCSD most SLOST funds to replace buildings that should have been maintained. What would Europe look like if a board let 300-500 year old building fall into such disrepair and wanted to replace them with an Action Building? Ooops, Action Buildings has a spot on our school board...

From a newsletter of Richard Smith that's important to all of us to be aware of:
IMMIGRATION (HB87)
a- General Conclusions:
With every great privilege, comes an inherent responsibility to abide by the laws that protect that privilege.
The Pew Hispanic Center recently determined that Georgia's immigration population ranks 7th in the nation
That same study estimates an illegal immigration population that nears 425,000, or a city population second only to Atlanta
As our local and state budgets become smaller and smaller, a greater scrutiny has to be given to those who receive services from those budgets.
From 2000-2009, Georgia's illegal population grew by 115%, the fastest of any state.
The fiscal burdens created by illegal immigrants directly impact the cornerstone services Georgia provides its citizens and the level at which they are provided, the Federation for American Immigration Reform estimate that burden to be $2.4 Billion per year. The services illegal immigration impacts:
Education
Healthcare
Law Enforcement / Corrections
Georgia's unemployment rate is at historic levels and it is our job as legislators to protect job opportunities for Georgia's legal citizens.
This legislation is necessary to address Georgia's serious social and economical problems caused by the federal government's failure to secure our border.
---
L-E editorial on above subject: "There were an estimated 325,000 illegal immigrants in Georgia last year, or roughly 7 percent of the state work force. To send them all packing, according to a Houston-based business think tank, would cost the state more than $21 billion in economic activity — and that was a 2008 estimate. That number surely hasn’t gotten smaller." -- Yeah, estimates now hover at closer to 425,000, but looking at the L-E argument about the impact on economic activity, wouldn't it be better if that impact was performed by Americans with real SS numbers, and who are registered taxpayers?
---

The only issue about "Sunday sales" is really whether the drinker is responsible or not. Was wondering when the L-E would notice that one of the furniture stores "going out of business" was in violation of state laws governing that issue, but what's the state going to do, get a court order (which would take months) to shut them down? Now, if the ballot issue could be one of eliminating the law that allows liquor stores to sell cold beer out of a drive-thru window versus being able to get out of your vehicle and walk soberly into such establishment, I could vote for it.

Was wondering when the L-E would notice that one of the furniture stores "going out of business" was in violation of state laws governing that issue, but what's the state going to do, get a court order (which would take months) to shut them down? The best way to do so would be to penalize newspapers and TV/Radio stations for taking ads from going-out-of-business businesses after the prescribed 90 day window. Yeah, that's gonna happen.

I'm beginning to have 'some' sympathy for 'some' of the red-light-runners after driving up Veterans Parkway last night and watching every traffic light I approached turnred as I got close. Didn't then-Mayor Martin pay millions for the synchronized traffic light system years ago?

Bowling will never be as rewarding as golf. It boils down to self-esteem. In golf, it's an honor, a true feat of accomplishment, to score one's age.

L-E headline: "As Mubarak leaves, Egypt erupts in celebration" -- Now this is a universal headline. Replace Mubarak's name with potUS Imam-a, and Egypt with "the US", and the headline is 100%v recyclable.

On page A9 of the L-E is a photo showing 100's of irate Pakistanis calling for the 'hanging' of US Embassy worker. Why is the sign in English? Do you think anyone behind the sign actually knows what the sign reads?

Bill O'Reilly writes: "The problem is problems. Sometimes they are so overwhelming that people, even presidents, simply cannot solve them. Even if they believe they can." -- That's actually not the problem...the problem is that some politicians get elected on their promise to solve the problem, and never had a clue on how to actually do it.
---
From the 'only in California" department - L-E story: " SAN FRANCISCO — By the time today’s teenagers were old enough to read, new drugs were available that meant HIV was no longer a death sentence. * But with infections among youth and young adults in the U.S. still rising, one senior at The Urban School of San Francisco decided his peers needed more than just another classroom lesson. * Nearly all 75 members of the senior class got tested for HIV in the school gym Friday." -- Hmmm, were nearly all 75 members of the Sr Class sexually active, or was it a case of 75 Srs simply not wanting to be publicly embarrassed admitting they aren't?

Online headline: "Obama to Mubarak: Quit Stalling on Democratic Reforms in Egypt" -- After seeing potUS Imam-a's "democratic reforms" trigger a massive voter riot in November, Mubarak is taking the path of least resistance.

Online story passed on by a fellow BCer: "Toxic carbon monoxide fumes looming at ice rinks may be putting the thousands of children who skate and play hockey at risk, according to a "Today" show investigation. -- Make sure your Councilperson sees this since the smaller, self-contained, dedicated mini rink is about to open soon.

February 5th was Obama Bahama day!
President Obama stepped out onto the white house lawn, saw his
shadow, and ran back inside.
We will now have two more years of high unemployment, big spending,
wasted stimulus, more regulations, and more socialism.

Is this L-E "soundoff" the ultimate liberal whine? " If you’re driving a big gas guzzler, you’re ultimately supporting Middle Eastern dictators/autocrats. Why are we having to deal with these creeps? No where in their 'feelings' is there a 'feel' that extracting our vast domestic oil reserves is a solution.

Where does liberal media, and potUS Imam-a get the idea there's been a 'tax cut"? What happened was the previous Bush Tax Cut was simply extended for 2 more years, but the 'death tax' was increased over the 2010 rate. Bottom line is that potUS Imam-a raised taxes, not cut them.
---
L-E's "LATE LAUGHS": "TEN THOUSAND angry demonstrators demanded that Egypt’s President Mubarak leave office. Police tried to disperse them with tear gas, and when that didn’t work they brought in a Black Eyed Peas halftime show. Conan O’Brien" -- Now, that's funny.
---
L-E headline: "Kraft Foods says price hikes ahead for consumers " -- Normally, when Kraft or any other business faces rising expenses, it makes unannounced increases to cover the costs. When they announce an increase, it's because a small raise isn't going to cover the cost increases. Meanwhile, our potUS Imam-a and his 40 Tsars hang opn to their assertion that there is no inflation.... yeah, right.

There's actually a video online with a UPS executive explaining why UPS trucks never make left turns. Seems there is actually a valid logistical reason; I just thought it was because UPS drivers didn't want anyone to think they were DUMB&DUMBERat supporters (like USPS drivers).

He served a five-year sentence and was released just more than a month before April 17, 2003." -- Why...why on earth..would anyone who has been allowed to plead "guilty but mentally ill" ever be released back into society?

The Bickerstaff's have been a godsend to Russell County/Phenix City, and why would anyone believe they would want to harm themselves or the goodwill they have generated over the decades. While Sunday sales of bulk alcohol is not something I think needs to be promoted (responsible drinkers shouldn't have a problem buying enough on Saturday for any Sunday needs), I'd almost help push this law if it contained a rider to outlaw selling cold beer, especially singles, from drive-thru windows.

From a L-E story: "The other grant for at-risk students was $89,505 for a program called “Out of School,” to be administered at Columbus State University. Brown called the concept a “holistic.” * “Instead of basically putting students in a gym with a ball, we give them some really good programs,” Brown said. “The start-off program will be with the stringed instrument people out of the Schwob School of Music. They'll interact with the children. Teach them about music and help them with homework.” * At first the program will accept 150-200 children, but Brown hopes that eventually it will be citywide. It is based on a Chicago program called “After School Matters,” which has been successful there, Brown said. " -- This I gotta see.... a successful Chicago program. Of course there's probably a difference in how things are deemed successful in Chicago versus anywhere else. Chicago deems voter registration drives in cemeteries "successful".

Of the 4 "programs" initiated for "Crime Prevention" 2 are "feel good", basically taxpayer daycare programs, and the initial monies will be but drops in a bucket for the ongoing costs. Of the other 2, one sounds like something that the VA should be handling, but the last could be something good...teaching and training job marketable skills to otherwise to the harder-to-employ sounds like the place to concentrate on.

How is any justice to be had in making a 16 year old relive a molestation act committed 8 years ago, but only coming to trial now, and the defendant be allowed to challenge the girl to a lie-detector contest in court? Once again, our Public Defenders expose their lack of decency in pursuing their own self-gratification.

$5,000.00 worth of copper tubing was stolen from one government facility, and $630.00 worth of fencing material was stolen from another, and nobody knows nothing. Sounds like a scene from "Hogan's Heroes" featuring Sgt Schultz.
