From a fellow BCer comes this after party picture: Can anyone find Mike Gaymon in it?

---
Online headline: "Fox News: Cops Arrest Suspect in Poisoning of Sacred Oaks" -- Boy! Tree huggers will unite to have the death sentenced imposed and carried out in an expeditious manner; maybe even string him up in one of those oak trees!
---
Online headline: "ABC's Miguel Marquez Attacked During Bahrain Protests" -- This, after the assault in Egypt on Lara Logan, and the beheading of Daniel Pearl, plus the disgusting manipulation of Saddam Hussein's atrocities by CNN, when is the liberal American media gonna realize that al-Qaida doesn't like them, and the Islamic realm in general doesn't like them either, but only use them to make terroristic attacks seem justified because of American arrogance?
---
Online story: "MADISON, Wis. -- A group of Wisconsin lawmakers blocked passage of a sweeping anti-union bill Thursday by ignoring orders to attend a vote and instead left the state to force Republicans to negotiate over the proposal. * Republicans hold a 19-14 majority, but they need at least one Democrat to be present before taking a vote on the bill." -- Where's the spirit of fair play...ooops, that one's not in the DUMB&DUMBERat playbook. If the D&D's 'feel' they are right, they should show up and vote against the bill, and if it's a bad one, campaign on it in 2012.

Online headline: "111 Charged in Medicare Scams Worth $225 Million" -- Well, obviously the system needs to be revamped. Start with the Medicare Claims payment office, then eliminate the programs we see advertised on TV saying 'they' will bill Medicare for you. You know that as often as those ads run that something is just not 'right'.

It's amazing... the City will curtail car/truck crossings on Hilton Avenue for safety reasons, but encourage bikers/hikers to do the same.
---
Now, if the City is truly interested in altering traffic movement in order to create a safer environment, it should address the eastbound exit traffic of the JR Allen Parkway exiting into 2nd Avenue from Phenix City. In a quarter mile or less, cars try to cross over to the 3rd lane to make a left turn on Manchester Expressway. Some will even come to a complete halt in the middle lane because the left turn lane is backed up for most of that quarter mile, and traffic from the westbound exit lane is forced to stop or exchange lanes to avoid hitting them. 2 possible solutions: 1 is to simply isolate the outside lane making traffic that wants to turn left at the light to go straight and turn at the 38th St light, or two, just eliminate left turns at Manchester Expressway during morning rush hour. One other solution would be to reroute the JR Allen exit at River Road to let traffic get off on the west side of River Road and take a right turn south rather than having to exit at the present set-up and try to make a left turn onto River Road,

L-E story: "The pace of layoffs in the Columbus metro area and much of Georgia appears to be steadily slowing, data released Thursday by the state indicate. * The Georgia Department of Labor reported that 2,127 Columbus-area residents filed unemployment claims for the first time in January, down 132 or 5.8 percent, from December. Columbus, Rome and Savannah were the only metro areas in the state to see a month-over-month decline." -- How does the GA Dept of Labor find such comfort in having "1st time" filings for unemployment claims be 5.8 % less than the month before? Let's face it, this month's "1st time" filers are IN ADDITION to each of the preceding months "1st time" filers!
---
When you think about it, the GA Dept of Labor is actually happy that more "1st time" filers happen each month. It makes their jobs 'more secure' because demand is up for their services, and when enough new filers file, it means the GA Dept of Labor will need to hire new associates. It's a vicious circle on the taxpayers.

L-E story: "For the first time in nearly a decade, officials had to tap the HOPE’s reserves this year, setting off a series of triggers designed to scale back the spending once the program began operating in the red. This fall, the $350-per-year book stipend for students on HOPE will be cut in half, and next year HOPE will no longer cover student fees. " -- Ooooh... so those mandatory $125.00 per student per semester fees for use of the CSU Spa Center aren't gonna get covered as anticipated... looks like every parent/student will basically be paying about $50 per month for a "gym fee" out-of-pocket whether they use it or not. What happens when student levels decline?

Thank goodness Governor Deal is looking into the lottery fund usages. When the lottery started, it was for the exclusive use of college scholarships, but you know how politicians are when they smell money and want to increase their chances for reelection...they diverted the original use to pay for free Pre-K programs (tax payer paid day-care), then for programs paying for technology and new buildings. Will someone analyze what the HOPE Scholarship condition would be in IF all the revenues had been contained for the original use of such?
---
I do wish the Sunday Liquor buying bill would be voted on in the GA House/Senate, and if it included a rider or amendment to stop dive-thru window sales of cold beer and other cold bottle/can alcohol drinks, I would support it for vote for local approval.
---
I'm glad the United Way Campaign was successful this year, but I think the expense of a public self-congratulatory festivity undermines how the donated money is spent/managed.
