What's wrong with this picture - The person receiving this award has been running a winning program for years but we only see the back of her head. Congrats, anyway, Ronie Collins!!!!!

Online headline/story: "Obama, Administration Officials Meet with Small-Business Owners * At a "Winning the Future" event in Cleveland, the president and several members of his cabinet fielded questions and concerns from business owners. * In his opening remarks, Obama stressed that the primary purpose of the visit was to allow business owners to voice their concerns and ideas. "I did not come to Cleveland to talk," the president said. "Instead I came here to listen." -- Hmmm, it's ironic that the "Winning the Future" slogan is straight from a Newt Gingrich book title, but we also know Emporer Obama doesn't know how to listen, so what's his point?
---
Emporer Obama's desire to push government backed SBA start-up loans to businesses without fixed assets reeks of the formula flaws that caved in the housing market through Fannie Mae backed mortgages to buyers without adequate assets and/or income to afford such loans. Just more nannyism.
---
Online story: "NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The U.S. Treasury is giving up $14 billion in tax revenue because of a sweetheart deal it's giving General Motors. * That break will reduce GM's U.S. tax bill by an estimated $14 billion in the coming years, and its global taxes by close to $19 billion, according to a company filing. * Companies typically get a break on future taxes because of past losses. But in most cases they lose that tax break during bankruptcy, because the losses are offset by the "income" the company receives from shedding its debt. * While it's unclear why GM was allowed to carry over its losses, some experts insist that GM got preferential treatment." -- GM got preferential treatment? Not exactly...the unions got preferential treatment. Now, we'll get to see if private right-to-work corporations get the same exemptions for carry-over losses when there's a rush to bankruptcy for them to shed their accumulated debts.

Online headline/story: 'Stupid Employee Trick of the Day: Workers Trash $50K Artwork * We're not sure who made the bigger mistake: the (Albuquerque, AZ) Parks and Recreation employees who thought the $50,000 piece of art was trash and took it to the city landfill, or the city officials who paid $50,000 for a piece of art that could be mistaken for trash." -- Have all our Library Board members accounted for at the time the 'art' was purchased?
---
Saw what must be the ultimate liberal elitist hypocritical status symbol for the current decade... a Lexus GX 570 with a 5.7 V-8 engine and an Obama bumpersticker.
---
L-E story: "In a major policy reversal, the Obama administration said Wednesday it will no longer defend the constitutionality of a federal law banning recognition of same-sex marriage." -- Didn't the Emporer Obama swear in his oath to defend the Constitution to the best of his abilities? Is this more of a confession to his self-evaluation of his abilities or was this just another broken campaign promise?
---
We must be doing something wrong here in the South.... a Vail, Colorado chef says his barbequed ribs are low fat and diet friendly. No wonder the Obama's eat there..there's nothing about a broken campaign promise they can't fully digest.

L-E headline: "Larry King to tour with one-man show" -- Ooops, my bad. Thought King had an audience of 1...sorta like his TV show.

Of course the Library would like some vintage, collectable books from old Southern authors, but is that the best use for such collectibles? Who wants to donate a bonafied piece of history only to see it sold off, or destroyed by abuse, or just turn up "missing" from the book shelves? Older books are not going to survive the rigors of a check-out system. The Library would probably serve us better by making those classics available for download to new "electronic books" or by stocking computer reprints.

From the "what the..." department: What was behind the Pratt & Whitney ad praising Congressman Bishop but not Congressman Westmoreland? It was a no-brainer vote for responsible citizens, but is Pratt & Whitney just accenting the fact that Congressman Bishop woke up after his November scare?
---
L-E headline: "Obama wary as U.S citizens wait to leave " -- Ooops, my bad. Didn't realize they are waiting to leave Libya, not the US.
---
L-E headline: "Obama says he’s preparing ‘full range of options’ on Libya" -- Then Emporer Obama should simply take a page out of President Reagan's playbook. A few well aimed missiles taking out the corner guard posts of Gaddafy's compound, and taking out Gaddafy's favorite pet goat tethered in his courtyard.

Looking at the summary of news items around the world, some of us remember the late 50's ditty from the Kingston Trio:

There are days in my life when everything is dreary
I grow pessimistic, sad and world weary.
But when I'm tearful and fearfully upset
I always sing this merry little minuet:

They're rioting in Africa
They're starving in Spain
There's hurricanes in Florida
And Texas needs rain.

The whole world is festering
With unhappy souls
The French hate the Germans,
The Germans hate the Poles

Italians hate Yugoslavs
South Africans hate the Dutch
And I don't like anybody very much

But we can be grateful
And thankful and proud
That man's been endowed
With a mushroom shaped cloud

And we know for certain
That some happy day
Someone will set the spark off
And we will all be blown away

They're rioting in Africa
There's strife in Iran
What nature doesn't do to us
Will be done by our fellow man. -- Some things haven't, nor will ever, change.

L-E story: " PHOENIX — An Iraqi immigrant convicted of second-degree murder for running over his daughter because she became too Westernized now faces between 18- and 46 years in prison." -- This is another example of how warped our criminal justice has become. How can intentionally running over your daughter be considered anything but extremely premeditated, first degree murder?
