Why is it that Emperor Imam-a wants to give Libyan Muslim rebels military weapons, but in this country, he wants to take personal and sporting guns away from American citizens?
---
Emperor Imam-a reminded us of gas prices 3 years ago and the perils of dependence on foreign oil, yet claims any action taken today would not have any positive action on today's gas prices. How does he know that since he hasn't tried to do anything? What if he had initiated drilling for oil 2 1/2 years ago...we'd be 2 1/2 years closer to producing all we need.

Dee Armstrong dismissed, Chuck Leonard publicly scourged, Kurt Schmitz chopped; what's in store for Dave Plata?

It's as much moronic as ironic, but Emperor Imam-a was presented an award for transparency at the White House. The irony? It was presented behind closed doors.

L-E headline/story: "Medicare to pay for $93K prostate cancer drug * WASHINGTON — Medicare officials said Wednesday that the program will pay the $93,000 cost of prostate cancer drug Provenge, an innovative therapy that typically gives men suffering from an incurable stage of the disease an extra four months to live." -- There's a difference between compassion and stupidity....When one lives with in a stage of life that has narrowed down to 4 months extension with a drug at a cost of $93,000.00, is the extra 4 months worth living at any cost? Can you not see the abuse of such a decision becoming a nightmare beyond comprehension in the future? Why not take the $93,000.00 and "scholarship" a promising urology student at a medical college?
---
Why is it that when shopping for new presidents/superintendents for schools or school systems do the powers that be believe having a dog-and-pony-show reception of the candidates is a good process? Why not just make a decision, and present their choice in a unified and positive manner?

Why does Phenix City want to list its 'tourists attractions'? Like all the amenities the Phenix City Chamber lists in its business prospectus, aren't they all in Columbus?

A conservative's daily look at the news with an aspect of "Laugh-In Looks at the News" and "Johnny Carson's monologue" twisted in.

L-E headline/story: "Old slave cemetery may become ‘tranquility garden’ * Columbus Council eyes plan to turn city’s first black cemetery into park-like setting * The garden would be fenced similarly to the old Linwood Cemetery * A recent archeological study of the site turned up no physical evidence of the cemetery being there, but historical data and oral history provide sufficient proof of the site’s significance, (Deputy City Manager David) Arrington said." -- First of all, the fence around Linwood was paid for as the HLC Foundation raised private money to fund it, but if oral 'evidence' is to be used, some sort of documentation needs to take place to confirm it. The wasted electronic search found zilch, so why not engage the Columbus Museum to do an archeological excavation in a high probability area of the plot and look for physical signs that would still be there before "assuming facts that are not in evidence" and before spending tax dollars?

Did you see "the Donald" on "The View"? I haven't seen it in a long time, but must assume that since the last time I saw it, Whoopi Goldberg nust have signed a contract to wear Omar the Tentmaker's designer frocks. One thing for sure, she won't get approved as Emperor Imam-a's obesity Tsar.

A TV commentator reported that 'some' think the president has set a dangerous precedence in Libya upon us. Hmmm, as I see it, the Libyan precedence has "set up" us with a dangerous President.
---
Another TV discussion was based on whether Emperor Imam-a should be helping the Libyan rebels without knowing who they are or their end agenda. Don't believe for a second that Emperor Imam-a doesn't know that "they" are "Muslim Brotherhood", and that he knows their ultimate agenda.

" -- "20 year boom in oil and natural gas demand"? Isn't GE's Chairman the one whispering in Emperor Imam-a's ear about 'going green' so GE can sell overpriced compact fluorescent light bulbs? Isn't GE the company pushing alternate fuel sources? I can see why GE doesn't want more drilling in the USA.

L-E headline/story: Muscogee County School Board: Special meeting called to discuss issuing sales tax bonds * “This way we don’t have to wait for the money to be collected and we can go ahead and start construction,” said school board chair Cathy Williams. * (Patricia Hugley) Green said that collections for the tax have gone well. * “I think we’ll be all right,” she said. -- While it's easy to say/think that the MCSD has it's best management team since the MCSD Board became elected, we have to really be watching them on being 'too quick on the draw' in committing SPLOST receipts before they materialize. The MCSD SPLOST receipts parallel the original City LOST tax rate, and that has already shown it will not even be close to the $225,000,000.00 the MCSD thinks it will generate before the 5 year collection 'window' closes, and I do not think the voters will give the MCSD another SPLOST to make up the difference.

Since Emperor Imam-a is so convinced that the French way is decidedly better than the American way, you'd think he'd figure out that the French handed Viet Nam off to the US, and now it is recorded only as an American blunder.

Bill Nelson, D-Fla., apparently to prevent him from speaking to people before Vice President Biden showed up." -- Hmmm, either the DUMB&DUMBERats have reversed their position about coming out of closets, or thry are hiring people at or below their intelligence levels. If Cheney had done this, we wouldn't find mention of Libya until the following week on CNN.

There's a DUMB&DUMBERat South Carolina State Representative who is introducing a law to ban prisoners from using Facebook (or any social network, for that matter). My question is why are prisoners allowed to use computers at all?

In the last 3 weeks, we've gotten 3 calls at our business number and 2 at home wanting us to come to the Columbus Health Department and get certified, re-certified or get vouchers for WIC. Sounds like we have government employees drumming up ways to spend more tax dollars. This should stop! Call 706-321-6281 and complain. If she has that much time to call us, she doesn't have enough to do, so why is she on the payroll?
---
If you wonder why I refer to non-conservatives as DUMB&DUMBERats, you only have to digest the latest DUMB&DUMBERat proposal to balance the budget (drum roll, please), taxing you by the miles you drive in addition to the outrageous gasoline taxes you already pay.
---
Why do DUMB&DUMBERats not understand that the first step, whether you're a public or private entity, or a big or small business, to balance a budget is to identify ineffective spending and cut or eliminate such? Why, because they'd have to admit they are not effective managers of tax dollars.
---
From L-E story: "Phil Mooney, Coca-Cola’s director of heritage communications, gave Columbus the credit, saying Coke was created here and carried to Atlanta, from whence it spread around the world, today sold in every country except Cuba, North Korea and Myanmar." -- Wow! Coca Cola is finally acknowledging what we knew all along. I can remember the tour guides at "The World of Coca Cola" in Atlanta being prompted to squelch any one taking a tour's comments about Coke being started in Columbus.
---
Talk about placement...Stacked headlines in the L-E: "New Handbook For Husbands May Settle Some Fights - Or Not" followed by "Dusty Nix on area's homeless problem" --

It's both nice and uncomfortable to talk about 'the homeless' situation and some solutions, but like most government programs, the funding goes primarily (usually in the 78% and higher range) into salaries and benefits for the administering of such programs.

From the "only in California" department - Online headline/story: "California City Hires $3,000-Per-Week Spokesman After Issuing Massive Layoffs * ( former Los Angeles Times reporter Bill) Lobdell, who will become the city's first formal spokesman in recent memory, told the newspaper he signed a 90-day contract that pays $75 an hour for up to 40 hours a week. His new job doesn't include perks or benefits. * Lobdell's pay is comparable to that of his counterparts in nearby towns where spokesmen also have health benefits and pensions, the newspaper noted" -- I just "hope" Lobdell sues Costa Mesa for healthcare benefits on the basis that Emperor Imam-a's HELL-thScare requires him to have health insurance and Costa Mesa has made him a criminal.

Speaking of the UN, (well, you might as well throw Emperor Imam-a in there as well,) why do DUMB&DUMBERats give a crap about the agreements and movements of the UN. All I want from the UN is for all the diplomats assigned there be arrested until they pay all their parking tickets.

The Court of Appeals has opened a real can of worms calling for a retrial based on 'inadequate assistance if counsel". Is there a public defender who missed this? Shoot, all a public defender needs to do is have a guilty client, run a bad defense, and collect a pay check from the state/county, make an appeal, then get in line for an appointment to handle the retrial.

L-E headline: "The Georgia Court of Appeals this week reversed Word’s conviction on the grounds of ineffective assistance of counsel." -- A case reversed "on grounds of ineffective assistance of counsel"? If that's a legitimate reason for a 'technicality, the Court of Appeals must order the elimination of court appointed attonreys, and the Court of Appeals must revoke the license of every attorney that loses a case.. no matter how guilty its client is! Online story: "U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates acknowledged there is no clear end to the international military enforcement of the no-fly zone over Libya, but President Barack Obama said it "absolutely" will not lead to a U.S. land invasion." -- It bothers me enough when Emperor Imam-a just makes a 'promise' that I know won't be kept, but it really bothers me when he adds such a degree as "absolutely".

---
From the looks of the news shows and newspaper front pages, Afghanistan has been replaced by Libya. Of course, the L-E doesn't know they exist because neither country is an SEC sports power.
---
It's gratifying that the L-E recognizes its past shortcomings and are trying to do something to regain readers and readers' confidences, but it is missing the boat. Chatter and banter are not the solutions; good and consistent investigative reporting of City, School, Business, and Crime issues (versus 'tiptoeing around'), plus focusing on Columbus' lifestyles other than the "bar scene" should show positive results.

L-E story: "After a tour of the 8801 Macon Road facility in Midland, Bishop also said he supported President Barack Obama’s effort to establish a no-fly zone in Libya to stem civilian bloodshed by Moammar Gadhafi’s troops. * As developments in Libya unfold , Bishop said he’s pleased the president has taken strong action with support from the international community, United Nations, the Arab League and major coalitions to keep Gadhafi’s from slaughtering his own people. * “As a matter of morality, as a matter of humanity, it’s necessary that those actions be stopped,” Bishop said. “The international community spoke with one voice with the United Nations.” -- Of course the L-E failed to mention Bishop supported HELL-thScare, and TARP, and that while he was out chumming up to Pratt-Whitney in Columbus, there were more DUMB&DUMBERats chastising the Connecticut P-W plant for eliminating hundreds of union jobs in Connecticut.

This will be a daily inclusion of the Breakfast Club: Diane Schneider, a representative with the National Education Association (NEA), said that graphic sex education needs to be taught in the classroom. * "She said that 'gender identity expression' and sexual orientation are a spectrum, and...that those [who are] opposed to homosexuality are stuck -- quote -- 'in a binary box that religion and family create.' -- This should be sent to every teacher in every school district, and they should be asked to either endorse it, demand Ms Schneider be fired, or drop their NEA membership.

Online headline: "Boehner Presses Obama to Define Libya Mission" -- Good luck with that! The last time we had a DUMB&DUMBERat President, he was having difficulty defining "is".

Online headline: "New Mortgage Rules May Hurt the Little Guy" -- Like the old ones hadn't almost destroyed us little guys?

Another liberal L-E "soundoff": " I don’t really care who runs for president, but I can tell you this: It’s going to take a man from the moon to beat Barack Obama." -- Can't you see the DUMB&DUMBERats protesting the birth certificate if this happens?
---
From the looks of the news shows and newspaper front pages, Afghanistan has been replaced by Libya.

Just got an e-mail from the Columbus Minority Chamber of Commerce. With the recent release of Census figure, who does the Minority Chamber now represent?

Kudos for the MCSD turning over fraud cases to the DA's office! Now we can focus on whether the DA will bother to try and win those cases.

L-E headline: "Columbus Council delays action on proposed panhandling ordinance" -- Guess Council wants to make sure they aren't going to get arrested soliciting campaign donations.

L-E "soundoff" : "Stop listening to Fox news and your blood pressure will go down. Start listening to NPR and your I.Q. will go up." -- Reminds me of an old joke : How do you make a liberal uninformed...take away his/her "Readers' Digest". How do you make a liberal misinformed...give him/her back the "Readers' Digest".

Yesterday, a great deal was made of a young man receiving a 'full face transplant. It sounded like great humanitarianism until you got to the end of the article when it mentioned the cost of $3.2 Million, and that because of the Emperor Imam-a HELL-thScare bill, the 25 year old got to tap into his parents' healthcare policy to get medicinal help, and he was able to get an insurance policy without the 'preexisting conditions' exclusions. Ladies and Gentlemen, we just paid for this, and it's an ominous reality that this will be the legacy of HELK-thScare for our children and grandchildren.

L-E story: " The Muscogee County School District Strategic Planning focus group for the community at large, scheduled around lunchtime Tuesday, didn’t go as planned. Over a couple of hours, only a couple of people showed to participate" -- What does this really reveal......maybe that the MCSD is grasping at straws or under delusional advice? Open drop-by focus groups planned for lunchtime? Gimme a break! Anyone who would drop by for such would do so only because he/she knew about it in advance, and had a particular agenda he/she wanted to inject. The MCSD Board is a paid job elected by voters to discuss and make decisions. The only "focus group" they need to solicit is the voters on election day.

And one of the Senate’s biggest liberals, Vermont independent Bernie Sanders, who caucuses with Democrats, says a left-wing primary challenger for Obama next year would be a good thing, The Hill reports." -- Huh? Not only does Emperor Imam-a rule from the left side, he golfs, bowls, and even writes from 'the left side' (which are things he doesn't do very well either). I'm willing to bet that even the only TelePrompter he reads from is the one on his left.

Time to get ready to go to the hospital.. ya'll pray, ya hear?

Our US Attorney General says Gaddafy has 'lost legitimacy' and 'should go'.....Hmmm, why isn't he saying that about Emperor Imam-a since this is his country and he has a legal right, maybe even a legal obligation, to comment on our President, but not another country's.

Something doesn't compute properly when the MCSD has 6,200 employees for about 33,000 students (last figures I have) when classes have 30+/- students while the over all employee/student ratio is about 5-to-1.
---
Speaking of suspect MCSD move to approve the Fort Middle School request to stop its application to becoming a charter school. A charter school would basically answer directly to the parents versus the MCSD board which would probably be an eye-opener for accountability. Instead, the school system wants to make Fort a 'magnet' school to (quoting the Fort Principal last week) attract "high performing students". The purpose of a 'magnet school' should be totally to attract students who have particular interests in a field of study, not just the elite. Isolating elite pockets of students does not give 'non-qualifiers' much option to attend schools that interest them, or that will keep their interest in staying in school.

With the new L-E format, the Tuesday Legals Section is now bigger than any two of the other sections.

Chuck Williams had a great and timely follow-up piece on the Parks&REC scandal.
I do think one thing that hasn't been touched is who at CB&T authorized the account without contacting the City Manager or City Attorney or the City Finance Office because of the City's exempt number being used. I'm pretty sure proper procedure was not followed. No secretary would have done the account without notifying an executive.

Boy that was great news...a judge has thrown out the motion to stop ex-Illinois governor Blagojevich's retrial. Whew, just as I was about to forget him and how to spell his name. Speaking of Illinois, how is Rahm Emanuel staying out out the news...isn't there some chaos he can create?

Saw a perplexing, maybe even c0nfusing t-shirt the other day. A senior woman was wearing such a shirt that had a Star of David on it with the following words inside the star, " Jesus Loves You".

Online headline/story: " Arkansas Prepares for $35 Million Tax Cut Package * (Gov. Mike) Beebe, a popular Democrat, handily won re-election last year after promising to continue reducing the state's grocery tax. Since he took office in 2007, he's successfully pushed for cutting the tax from 6 percent to 2 percent." -- Hmmm, a tax cutting DUMB&DUMBERat...sounds more like an oxymoron. Guarantee Emperor Imam-a doesn't have Beebe on his short list for job appointments.
---
Emperor Imam-a says he cannot stand idly by when a despot shows no mercy... that must explain why he needed to play golf and go to Rio for Spring Break.

Hmmm, so the L-E is going to make the Monday edition in 4 rather than 2 sections... hmmm, will be interesting how the L-E can call 3 or 4 pages a 'section'.

L-E "soundoff" : " Wanted: Bright young trustworthy person to run against Josh McKoon for state Senate." -- Well, that eliminates McKoon having opposition from a DUMB&DUMBERat in the General Election.

L-E headline: "Obama: Brazil’s democracy an example to Arab world " -- Well, well, well...the US has the longest continuing form of government the world has ever had, and Emperor Imam-a points out Brazil as a form Arab countries should use as 'the example'. Why doesn't he just send the Arabs our original Constitution that James Madison penned; our Emperor doesn't seem interested in using or enforcing it.

It's minimally ironic, but mainly weird, that Emperor Imam-a is making war decisions while out of the country. Wonder if he's sending orders via his ;twitter" account?
---
One of the overlooked blessings of the new "Hope Scholarship" package will be that our colleges will have to 'cut the glut' of overloaded teaching positions needed to handle the flood of first year college students who didn't really earn the grades to be there on Hope Scholaships in the first place.

Online story: "Malaysia doesn't care if you were "Born This Way" — they just don't want to hear about it. In fact, dozens of radio stations in the Muslim-majority country have censored the lyrics to Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" and its pro-acceptance message. In place of the line "No matter gay, straight or bi, lesbian, transgendered life, I'm on the right track, baby," they've subbed in gargled vocals. AMP Radio Networks, which operates in Malaysia, says the lyrics were censored because they "may be considered as offensive when viewed against Malaysia's social and religious observances." -- Liberals! You have been challenged to defend your beliefs. Call to see if you qualify for a one-way ticket to there.

So Emperor Imam-a is taking Spring Break in Rio de Janeiro? Why is he taking his family to his home state of Hawaii to stimulate its economy? Maybe it's the $4.00 gas; maybe it's the proximity to Japan?

A Kansas lawmaker jokes about the control method of using helicopters to locate and shoot feral hogs that are overrunning Kansas farms as a way to control illegal immigrants as well, and gets blistered by liberal organizations, but when Secretary of State Clinton advocates bombing Libyan targets to support the 'no fly zone' concept, not one acknowledges the violence, and she wasn't joking.

Online headline: "At $8.89 BILLION, Bank Bailouts Cost Much Less Than the FDIC Expected" -- Hmm, the Emperor Imam-a spinmeisters are out in force. Wednesday, the spinmeisters were touting inflationary drug prices as "positive growth', and yesterday, they are out spieling that bailouts only costing $8.89 BILLION is a bargain. 2% growth since the last census.... if you're looking for facts it's more like that there's been a net gain of only 2% as almost as many families are moving out to Harris County et al as are moving into Muscogee County. The other day, the School System announced it was dropping its application to make Fort Middle School a 'charter school', and would make a magnet program there instead. The principal's comment bothered me. She said Fort would become a school that would "attract high performing students". Excuse me, but if our administrators think there magnet programs are to "attract high performing students", then the magnet program will fail in its overall goal of reaching all students with certain desires. The purpose of any magnet program should be to offer specialized programs that not only attract the 'high performing student', but the student that has those interests at any level of ability. To run the magnet programs anyway else will only turn schools into pockets of elitism.

There's a major flaw in Mother Teresa Obamalinson's to impose a minimum 'fee' on homeowners paying less than $500.00 in property taxes. The MCSD will be eying that 'fee' as the property tav it surely is, and will want the lion's share for itself... or at least the ability to impose a 'fee' of its own.

Of course, neither the City nor the MCSD would go for a maximum fee/tax that could be charged to any homeowner.

Isn't it amazing at the difference that the tsunami victims in Japan handled their needs compared to the citizens of New Orleans after Katrina?

Got the biggest kick yesterday...a woman, probably some college girl volunteering during her Spring Break, called me on behalf of the DNC soliciting a donation to help DUMB&DUMBERat Senators get re-elected in 2012. I let her finish her script about how the Republicans are bent on undoing all the great work the DUMB&DUMBERat Congress did following the 2008 election. I then told her "thanks for reminding me of all that they did", and that I was going to sit down and write checks to Republican Senate candidates in 'hope' that additional 'change' will salvage America's future from the doom of the Obama administration. The sound of her 'fluster' was terrific as she didn't know how to handle my reaction to her spiel. I said "Thank you for calling", and she responded with a perplexed 'you're welcome'. Hope she calls again. Bet I can get her to donate to the RNC. Hmmm, wonder if my business number use to belong to some DUMBERat?

When all's said and done, since the Hope Scholarship program has been 'tightened', in most school districts, those earning a 3.0 GPA will probably be given 3.7 GPA.

Everyone be on your alert. I noted earlier in the year that one car dealer was advertising it would knock the sales tax of 7% off the purchase price of a car bought that weekend, but yesterday, at another dealer, I was quoted a price on a new car and the tax was quoted at 7% also. If dealers are counting on you not to check their math, you can bet they'll collect that extra 1% sales tax, and it will not be reported to the state. I didn't buy it.

Online headline: "February Federal Budget Deficit Sets Record" -- "Sets a record"? Only leftist in the media and Hollywood would think of this as a honor to promote. What's next, a "red" carpet award ceremony at the West Wing of the White House?

Does he suggest that we invite 'Calypso Louie' (and that he would accept our invitation) to our next neighborhood barbeque, or that the Muslim Quran is "just kidding" when it tells the followers of Allah that it is their duty to kill anyone who doesn't believe the same way?

How about they do "community service" inside the jail?

The state is a self-insurer, which means it provides money for the fund and pays the health insurance claims itself. Employees now pay about 25 percent of the cost while the government covers the other 75 percent. * Bill Tomlinson, a retired former state budget director, said the average retiree on a state pension makes about $28,000 a year and can’t afford to pay an additional $1,200 or $2,000 a year in premiums. “I think it is atrocious because they have known they were going in the hole for a year,” he said" -- There is some truth in Tomlinson's statement...it is atrocious that individuals think other taxpayers should pay for their personal benefits.

Walter Williams' column in today's L-E is right on target (congrats to the L-E for giving Williams column the premium slot on the editorial page, too), and supports the theory that people should not be allowed to vote in elections where the candidates set their salaries and benefits. Fortunately, one such loophole has been fixed. The MCSD can no longer schedule SPLOST elections on the date of its choice when it thinks general voter interest is lax, and it can depend on the bloc vote of its employees and their families.

When you really think about it, Newt Gingrich is responsible for Nancy Pelosi becoming the Speaker of the House, and for the election of Barack Obama (now Emperor Imam-a). Huh, you say? Think about it..what if Newt did not step down from the House? What if Newt had manned-up and faced the liberal media attacks head on, and maintained his position in Congress? What if Newt had stayed in his leadership position as Speaker; do you think he would have allowed the Republican Congress start spending /acting like drunken DUMB&DUMBERats? No way! If Newt had stayed and weathered the media onslaught of his personal life, Nancy Pelosi would never gotten control of the House gavel, and Emperor Imam-a would still be living in Chicago. Thank you, Newt.....NOT!

From my soapbox: I sit in wonder at how government expenses snowball to unwieldy size, then I see an example of unnecessary use of personnel that boggles my mind. Tuesday morning, as I waited at the stoplight on Manchester Expressway at the entrances of the campuses at Columbus Tech, I witnessed a security guard escorting a number of grown, adult students from one side of the street to the other. There is a stoplight (as previously mentioned), a marked crosswalk, and, of course, the ubiquitous pedestrian walk/don't walk signals.
I learned how to cross a street from my parents, grandparents, and even my 1st & 2nd grade teachers. If there is no traffic light, approach the curb, look both ways, and if it is clear, cautiously cross the street. If there is a traffic light, wait until the light turns green in the direction you want to cross, look both ways, then proceed across with caution. It's rather simple when you think about it.
Why is it that our government spends millions of dollars installing walk/don't walk monitors at intersections that already have traffic lights, and then....then hire an adult to escort other healthy adults across the street?
It is just wrong to spend money so wastefully. It is just wrong to spend good money on unnecessary services.

It's sad to hear of the continued failure of Carmike Cinemas, but the movie theater/Hollywood relationship has been failing for years. There's a house in foreclosure in the paper today in a nicer neighborhood that says the owner is in default of a $254K mortgage. The same house is assessed a value of $189,267.00 by our tax office. How does this happen? Even if the mortgage was a re-fi, that should have changed the "freeze" value because it has been basically sold to its existing owner for a higher price. Council should definitely review all re-fis that are for more than the original sale price.

When someone doing evil is described as a "Christian", the world looks at it as an 'un-Christian' act. When someone doing evil is described as a "Muslim/Islamist", the world doesn't look at it as an 'un-Muslim/Islamist" act. There's a true difference in the belief system.

Wisconsin is the main battlefield at the moment, but what message are the teachers sending to all students? Superior Courts will have additional cases. Now, Council, save the $55,000.00 you were thinking about spending for someone else to say the same thing.

Looking at the agenda in general, it seems that Council has too much money available and no will power to not spend it.

WTVM9 story: "TACOMA, WA (CNN) - A sex offender in Washington state is suing the mother of his victim. * The reason? She wrote about her child's alleged molestation in her blog. * Danielle Schneider says she started the blog to warn the community about Patrick Rojas. Rojas pleaded guilty in 2007 to misdemeanor communication with a minor for immoral purposes. * CNN reached out to Rojas' attorney and there is no comment at this time. *In court documents, his lawyer says Rojas is embarrassed by the blog and can't get work because of it." -- Only CNN would side with making a molester a victim.

L-E story: "The tax council recommends Georgia’s 37-cent tax on a pack of cigarettes be raised to 68 cents. The proposed tax is an average of the surrounding states, but it would be the second-highest next to Florida’s $1.34. * Opinion is split among lawmakers on raising the tax, with a slight edge toward approving an increase. Democrats generally support increasing the tax, which is among the nation’s lowest. Republican sentiment is more divided." -- "Democrats generally support increasing the tax"...DOH, and what's new about this?

Janet Ann Cohn...what a wonderful person and influence on my life. The world is a better place because of her.

From The Council Agenda in the L-E: "It is requested that council approve payment to National Center for State Courts (NCSC) in the amount of $55,000 to perform a workload assessment study for Superior Court. * The study will assess operations related to case management and the impact of a new Army division moving to the area to be conducted for the Superior Court Judges and the Office of the Clerk of Superior Court." -- Hey, 28-30,000 people will be moving into the area; that's about a 10-15% increase in area population. Superior Courts will have additional cases. Now, Council, save the $55,000.00 you were thinking about spending for someone else to say the same thing.
---
Looking at the agenda in general, it seems that Council has too much money available and no will power to not spend it.

Maybe the Columbus Lady Wings should be playing ball for the Columbus Parks&REC program..a lot more of them are from the Columbus area than players for the Georgia Blazers program.

Yesterday's L-E headline/story: "Study: Less sex for U.S. teens, young adults * The study, released Thursday, is based on interviews of about 5,300 young people, ages 15 to 24. * It shows the proportion in that age group who said they’d never had oral, vaginal or anal sex rose in the past decade from 22 percent to about 28 percent. " -- How sick is it to ask teens about sexual activity and at the same time lumping in sodomy with normal sexual activity?

From an online story concerning the deaths of 2 children and their mother in Florida: "That person said Brown (the mother) put one of her children up for adoption several years ago. When the adoption fell through, the source said, Brown readopted the child and began collecting adoption subsidies. It's unclear whether it was her son or daughter." -- Florida taxpayers paid a subsidy to the natural mother for "readopting" her natural child.... incredible!

Casey Anthony's attorneys asked that several key pieces of evidence, including statements Anthony made to police, not be permitted at her trial for the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, as a motion hearing continued for the third day today in an Orlando, Fla., courtroom." -- I reckon so...it would beat having to defend her for what she probably has done... hmmm, another weird Florida case...must be something in the swampwater.

L-E story: "Women now account for the majority of undergraduate enrollment across all race/ethnic groups. * Women taking the idea of getting a college degree more seriously doesn’t surprise Marietta Webb, the principal of the Academic Success Center in the Muscogee County School District. * “More women are becoming the sole supporter of their family,” said Webb, who, as does Roberts, has a doctorate. “That now takes a quality education.” -- No, what it indicates is that there is less emphasis on social mores for men to be responsible, and for women to make better choices in deciding what men they allow into their lives.

Her solution? Have a stronger government TV news operation - just like they do in China and Russia. How many times has that thought crossed your mind: 'if only we had a media more like China - THEN we'd be set'." -- Amazing... and from a person liberals epitomize as 'the smartest woman in the world'. Does she think Al Jazeera, as a woman, would hire her?

A Wall Street Journal story on teachers' salaries lists South Dakota (with an AVERAGE teacher's salary at $35,201) as the "worst" in the country. This is salary, not benefits etc. Now, in South Dakota, there is a 13.4 student/teacher ratio, and the student NAE Progress reports for math and reading are both the 8th best (respectfully) in the country. The second "worse" state for teacher salaries is North Dakota, AVERAGING a salary of $44,266, has a student/teacher ratio of 11.9, and the students are ranked 4th in math, and 10th in reading for the NAE Progress reports. Mississippi is the 6th lowest AVERAGE teacher salary at $46,818, has a student/teacher ratio of 13.9 and the worst math and reading NAE Progress reports of all states. Kansas is the 10th lowest salaried AVERAGE at $47,080, and its student/teacher ratio is 13.7, and the students rank 11th in math and 19th in reading. Sorry, it's not about salary, or even student/teacher ratios, it's about teaching what to who.

What's with the L-E (certainly not the majority of its readers) whining about 'the birther bill" requiring proof of American birth for presidential candidates in GA primary races? Our forefathers thought that to be important enough to include it in the Constitution, just as they included the 1st Amendment to give the L-E the right to make asinine opinions. All the L-E needs to know is that such a GA law will keep distracting situations created by Emporer Imam-a from re-occurring.

The extraordinary amount of travel expenses incurred by the Auburn Bowl trip is a great example of how easy it is to spend other people's money. The football team had 473 "necessary" people and the band/cheerleaders had 435 "necessary" people. What should be used as the "necessary" numbers of people needed to travel to a game should be based on how many people were necessary for regular season games. I'd love to see a published list of those people who literally did not play for the football team, in the band, nor cheerleaders, with a brief description of their reason to be considered 'necessary' for the trip.

I understand why a law firm, even a 1-man/2-man firm charges $250-$300.00 per hour as the firm has fixed expenses that need to be covered, but I don't know why a bank has to pay an in-house lawyer that much or more per hour when the bank, even one swimming in legal problems, is also paying all the expenses as well.
