Spent Friday night in Atlanta on a Hotwire.com Buckhead special..$130.00 for a nice room at the Grand Hyatt. Sounds like a deal...but by the time $40.00 in state, city, visiting taxes, and $34.00 for overnight parking we were up to week day rates. Maybe next time I'll call direct so I can negotiate that $47.00 buffet breakfast for two and save money.

You know.. why is it that cities think taxing visitors exorbitant hotel/motel taxes will be an attractive way for visitors to remember their trip? I can remember thing $40 for a good hotel room was outrageous.. hell, I can remember when hospital rooms weren't even close to $40.00 a night, and now that is what it takes to pay "vacation" taxes in an $130.00 Atlanta room.
