The Breakfast Club - August 1, 2010

Saw a pickup truck yesterday AM (w/AL plates) that had the rear window smashed out, and both side mirrors and the windshield cracked. Wonder if a new country song about somebody done somebody wrong is about to hit the air waves.
---
What's the problem with bicyclists? They want equal rights on the road, but when you see most of them, they are breaking the laws that control them. Saw 8 cyclists in UPtown Saturday AM. 4 of them were illegally riding on the sidewalks, and 4 others hardly slowed down before blowing through a red light. All this, and they pay nothing towards the development or upkeep of the roads. Maybe it's time they buy licenses and tags, and take license/biking exams. (FTR, I used to be an avid bicyclist, and have many road trips to my credit)

Congress accedes the hotness of August, and goes on a month-long plus vacation, but our schools re-open and take the best swimming and family vacation time month away from our children .. What's wrong with this picture?
---
Online headline: "Massachusetts Beach Closed After Shark Sightings" -- Ooops, my bad! Thought someone had spotted Kerry parking his yacht.
---
Online headline: "PLO Official Says Obama Sent Warning to Abbas" -- What'd he say...that he would not bow to him the next time they met?
---
Online headline/story: "House votes to lift oil spill liability cap * The final vote was 209- 193" -- Huh? I recall it taking 218 votes to pass a law in the House.
---
Congrats, Northern LL Major Boys!
---
L-E headline/story: "Chelsea Clinton weds at New York estate * Chelsea Clinton wed her longtime boyfriend under extraordinary security at an elegant Hudson River estate late Saturday." -- Quick! What is 'his' name? (Half credit if you said anything 'Clintonish')
---
For a few weeks, everyone in Rhinebeck was employed; Monday will have probably most of them filing 'first time unemployment'.
---
L-E "soundoff" : "For everyone saying they want to take their country back, I don’t. I want to take my country forward." -- Amen, but form where the Founding Fathers started, not where the DIM/DUMBs have diverted it!
---
Another L-E "soundoff": " I guess the laws of the land don’t apply to Charlie Rangel, John Kerry, Tim Geithner or illegal aliens. They just apply to me. " -- Another, "Amen". please! Fortunately, there are enough "me's" to make a difference in November & the future. All us 'me's" just need to remember to vote everytime we get a chance, even if it means taking time out of our work day!
---
Another worthy "soundoff": "Isn’t it interesting how Fox is repeatedly blamed for the Shirley Sherrod debacle, when Fox didn’t report a word about it until after the Department of Agriculture had fired her and the NAACP condemned her? " -- Another "Amen", but, unfortunately, it doesn't change a liberal mind (that's a pretty good oxymoron) to confuse him/her with facts.
---
L-E headline/story: "Rangel prepares 3-way ethics defense * Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., may also face ethics trial * Waters came under scrutiny after former Treasury Department officials said she helped arrange a meeting between regulators and executives at Boston-based OneUnited Bank without mentioning her husband’s financial ties to the institution. " -- When it comes to not revealing "financial ties". Pelosi and her husband benefited tremendously when certain 'minimum pay' laws excluded territorial islands where Dole has pineapple plantations.
---
L-E story: "WASHINGTON — To rebut a lengthy list of alleged ethical misdeeds, Rep. Charles Rangel is trotting out this threeway defense: I didn’t do it. I did it, but was inattentive. Others lawmakers were allowed to do the same thing without penalty." -- You know, in his own words, Rangel has become the poster child for term limits!
---
L-E headline/story: "Perdue to greet Obama on Monday * ATLANTA — Gov. Sonny Perdue will greet President Barack Obama planeside when the Democrat arrives in Georgia on Monday. * Obama will be in Atlanta to address a convention of disabled American veterans and to headline a Democratic National Committee fundraiser. " - Though prioroties are not necessarily in that order.
---
Instant headline repeat/story: "Perdue to greet Obama on Monday * Obama will be in Atlanta to address a convention of disabled American veterans and to headline a Democratic National Committee fundraiser. * Meanwhile, Roy Barnes, the Democratic nominee for governor, won’t be anywhere in sight. Barnes will be in south Georgia campaigning. His campaign manager said that by the time they learned of Obama’s trip, Barnes’ schedule was already locked in. " -- Like potUS Nero-bama was invited to join Barnes at any of the locations Barnes will be...... yeah, sure!
---
L-E story: "Jamaica has one of the highest rates of police killings in the Western Hemisphere, according to Amnesty International. It also has one of the world’s highest murder rates. " -- Wow! That sort of changes the perceptions Bob Marley tries to sell.
---
Heard a rumor that the next Republican national campaign slogan will be "Hope & Change". Guess they "hope" independents and some DIM/DUMBs "change" there cotes in the next several Novembers.
---
L-E headline/story: "Police: 2 men tried to sell wood blocks as laptops * JACKSON, Miss. — Investigators in Mississippi say two men wrapped blocks of wood in duct tape and bubble wrap, attached Toshiba labels and tried to pass them off as laptops. " -- Don't you have to wonder how many FEMA bought, and whether they reordered more?
---
L-E headline/story: "Paintball course attracts unwanted guests: bears * BILLINGS, Mont.
Big Sky Marketing Director Dax Schieffer says the resort tried to find an environmentally friendly paintball. But it turned out that the one selected contains a vegetable oil that can attract grizzly and black bears that commonly roam the region." -- This is what happens when business tries to work with environmental liberals!
---
Today's Walter Williams' column should be mandatory reading at every meeting of the NAACP, and he and Bill Cosby should be made permanent members of its Board of Directors, each with complete veto power of any overall Board decision.
---
With few on the road, GM and NISSAN are already having to make concessions to interest drivers in the "Volt" and "Leaf". The car industry will not be fully recovered until the industry is able to hype/promote bigger cars, and ones that accelerate 0-60 in under 4 seconds. Even the meat industry knows a slab of red sirloin steak does not sell well until you "sell the sizzle" by showing it on the grill.
---
If the above battery driven vehicles take 4 - 8 hours to recharge on a 220 volt outlet, how long will they take to charge on a 120 volt outlet that most people have?
---
I could be wrong, but Karen Handel's 34% of the primary vote doesn't mean she will win the runoff. Clearly 2/3 of Republican voters wanted someone else.
