The Breakfast Club - August 7, 2010

Online headline/story: "County Sorry for Closing Girl's Lemonade Stand * Just ask Julie Murphy. * Last week, the 7-year-old set up a lemonade stand at a local arts fair in Portland, Ore. * Just as business started picking up, two Multnomah County (Oregon) health inspectors surrounded her and asked the young entrepreneur for her $120 temporary restaurant license. * The clipboard-toting fighters of food poisoning told Julie and her mom, Maria Fife, that they would have to shut down or face a $500 fine." -- Multnomah County is not just 'sorry', its pathetic!

Have you heard the adds of Chevrolet touting 'a thousand buyers a day switching to Chevrolet'? Think about that. Since GM has shutdown Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Hummer, Saturn, and Saab, what alternative does a loyal GM buyer have? Of course, what GM's not saying is whether all the former buyers of those defunct divisions are staying with GM products.

L-E headline/story: "Law enforcement ticketed during crackdown on illegal parking at Columbus Government Center *
In addition to the parking for the transport van for prisoners, Wetherington said officers who are going to court don’t have a place to park.

“We just don’t have enough parking around the Government Center, not even for the people who want to do some business at the Government Center,” he said. “There is no place for them to park.” -- Proof positive the city has too many employees! The Government Center (with the exception of building another court room where Council used to meet, and moving Council to the plaza) hasn't expanded since its construction. Couple that with the City taking over the parking garage for exclusive use of government workers, and its obvious there are too many people working at the Government Center...well, there is the possibility that there are too many employees not working.

From same story: "Allowing parking in the median along First Avenue may be an option to consider, Wetherington said. That option may free up 30 to 40 parking spaces for public safety personnel from the Muscogee marshal, police department and sheriff’s office." -- How come there's no consideration for PUBLIC parking?

---

Unbelievable! I'm still shaking my head at this occurance. Yesterday, I got a robot call at my business from Dun&Bradstreet. The 'voice' said 'she' was calling to update our profile. Then there was a 5 second delay, and 'she' continued, "unfortunately, all our representatives are busy, and there's no one to speak to you. Someone will contact you later". I sure hope D&B isn't trying to get me/us to subscribe to any of their services.
---
Online story: "ST. PAUL, Minn. (Aug. 6) -- The head of Target Corp. apologized Thursday over a political donation to a business group backing a conservative Republican for Minnesota governor, which angered some employees and sparked talk of a customer boycott." -- Well, if that's the case, I am now boycotting Target!
---
Online headline: "2011 May Be Bad for Homeowners" -- After 2009 & 2010, you'd think something might rebound, BUT, then again, why would we expect any improvement?
---
Online headline: "For First Time, US Joins Hiroshima Ceremonies" -- The 'apology tour' continues......
---
L-E headline: "Schwarzenegger, Brown call for same-sex weddings " -- I'm almost willing to allow them to get married; they deserve each other.
---
From Bill O'Reilly commentary: "If Obama was being worked over the way President Bush was by the establishment media, his job approval rating would probably be in the 20 percent range. Remember the brutal media beating Bush took? " -- Even without the general media slamming potUS Nero-bama, if Nero-bama loyalists didn't believe it when potUS Nero-bama points his finger at Bush as the reason he's so overwhelmed at his job, potUS's rating probably be in the teens.
---
Also from O'Reilly: "In reply (to David Letterman), here’s a Top 1 list for Letterman and his uber-liberal guest: The American people don’t need to be “riled” up by phony race baiting. They are already riled up by reality. And the polls prove it." -- If you hadn't read O'Reilly's full column today, make it a priority to do so. Them make copies and send to any/every liberal you know.
---
Another commentary: "In December at West Point, the president pledged that “after 18 months, our troops (in Afghanistan) will begin to come home.” * He never spelled out the pace at which they’d leave, and he talked of a “responsible transition.” But Afghans took him to mean we were heading for the exits. * This made the Taliban bolder and less likely to agree to a negotiated settlement." -- O'Reilly again? NOT! This is from TRUDY RUBIN of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Who says the truth is not out there in liberal conversations once you get by MSNBC & CNN?
