McClatchy headline/story: "U.S. gun sales hit a record high since Obama's re-election *

Read more here: http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2013/01/11/179551/us-gun-sales-hit-a-record-high.html#storylink=cpy
In the four years since Barack Obama was first elected president in November 2008, an estimated 67 million firearms have been purchased in the United States. That’s more than were sold in almost seven years before his first election." -- We probably should put an * next to this info, and not count all the AK-47's he sold to the Mexican drug industry.
---

Online headline/story: "U.S. Budget Deficit Grows by $260 Million in December * The U.S. annual budget deficit is on track to reach $1 trillion for a fifth straight year, though government revenue jumped last month as people paid some taxes early to avoid higher rates in 2013" -- Hmmm, guess the pot-US Obluster spinmeisters will be all smiles on the Sunday TV talk shows. They will be 'on message' that the growth of the debt, and the growth of the first time unemployment figures, and record gun sales are the sign of a runaway economy. Hmm, you know, in a way, they'll be right... unfortunately, it's running for cover.

---

Online headline: "San Diego Movie Theater Shooting: Cop Shoots, Injures Armed Man" -- We gotta demand our police get more time on the practice range!

---

Chicago historic marker:

Chicago highlighted the spot of its 500th murder victim of 2012. Be sure and put this on your city-tour plans the next time you go there.

---

Note: "Up to 80 percent of Chicago's murders and shootings are gang-related, according to police. By one estimate, the city has almost 70,000 gang members. A police audit last spring identified 59 gangs and 625 factions; most are on the South and West sides. " -- pot-US Obluster musta been a great Community Organizer. Looks like all his organized community groups have flourished.

Identify this unretouched photo:

Red Wave Australia Dust

"Officials with the Australia's Bureau of Meteorology told the Newcastle Herald the "red wave" spectacle was caused by a combination of wind and rain that kicked up rust-colored sand and dust into the air and forced the cloud of debris out to sea." -- WRONG!

This actually this is the Alabama Crimson Tide rolling in at the Australian Rules Football Championship Series.

---

Online headline: "Biden Connects With Newtown Families" -- Yeah, musta been the "silver bullet" and him "shooting for Tuesday" comments.

---

Online headline: "Notre Dame Coach Decides on Future" -- One thing for sure, it won't be as a SEC head coaches job.

---

Online story: "INDIANAPOLIS -- An American convicted of fighting alongside the Taliban must be allowed to pray daily in a group with other Muslim inmates at his high-security prison in Indiana, a federal judge ruled Friday. * Barring John Walker Lindh and his fellow Muslims from engaging in daily group ritual prayer violates a 1993 law that bans the government from curtailing religious speech without showing a compelling interest, U.S. District Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson ruled." -- Hmmm, Muslims can pray in prison, but Christians can't pray in schools or federal buildings (I guess other than prisons).

---

Online story: "Mallory Hagan won the Las Vegas beauty pageant Saturday night after tap dancing to James Brown's "Get Up Off of That Thing" and answering a question about whether armed guards belong in grade schools by saying we should not fight violence with violence." -- "we should not fight violence with violence"? Guess that did appeal to liberal judges (such as Paris Hilton come to mind), but the real answer that would have endeared her to the American citizens was "we can fight violence with real prevention methods.

---

From the "huh?" department - L-E story: "Miss Iowa: Two states have legalized the recreational use of medical marijuana. Is that the best direction for our country? "I think that depends on the situation," she says of legalizing marijuana. Says she only supports marijuana being used for recreational and healthcare purposes." -- Miss Iowa ONLY "supports marijuana being used for recreational and healthcare purposes."? "Maybe there's more than corn growing in Iowa, and she's starring into the sequel of "Field of Hallucinatory Dreams"... either that or going to work as spokeswoman for the Iowa Tourism Council ... "take a Trip IN Iowa!

McClatchy headline: "California Gov. Jerry Brown says budget deficit has disappeared" -- Guess Moonbeam wants a new nickname..such as 'fairy godfather' and a magic wand?

---

Liberal's L-E "soundoff": "If Citizens United is right and corporations are people, why do 67% of them pay zero income tax?" -- Basic lesson for libs: Corporations are not people; corporations are 'corporations' which provide jobs/service/products to people, and could pay people more in salary if they weren't taxed at all. The fact that this lib asserts that 67% don't pay income tax could be true, but...but.. only because government regulations are probably keeping them from being profitable.

---

Another lib's L-E "soundoff": "The Sandy Hook principal had the courage to stand up to the shooter and died. The Republican Congress does not have the courage to stand up to the NRA." -- Hmmm, if an NRA sanctioned gun show had been going on at Sandy Hook, the gunman would not have gotten past the front door, and the principal, 5 other adults and the twenty 6 & 7-year-olds would still be alive.

---

After looking at the L-E' online photo album of professional bull riders, it looks like bicycle helmets w/facemasks must out sell cowboy hats at country&western stores. Wonder if Kenny Chesney will trade in his hat for a helmet?

---

First, why is the L-E giving commentary space to Theresa El-Amin? Nothing she moderates is going to get by her racism trump card. The MCSD Board cannot blame the search firm for what's on the table. The MCSD chose that firm's offer. The MCSD should run it's own campaign listing the mandatory and flexible qualifications it seeks in a new superintendent, then make sure he/she lives up to being 'super'.

---

L-E headline/story: "Superstorm Sandy relief package swell aid for past disasters * The objections have led senior House Republicans to assemble their own $17 billion (hey, when the media stops capitalizing the "B" in Billions, then the media has decided the a 'billion' is not much money) dollar proposal, that when combined with already approved money for flood insurance claims, is less than half of what President Barack Obama sought and the (DUMBERat controlled) Senate passed in December." -- Yes, the House version is less than half of what the DUMBERats passed, BUT less than half of what pot-US Obluster and Harry Reid crammed into the Senate version was for Superstorm Sandy relief as well.

---

Looks like we'll get a Manning-less Super Bowl... May not help the ratings overall, but should mean we won't see so many Peyton Manning commercials.

---

Guys (no offense to my women readers, but the guys need to get good info), while taking one for the bride is reason enough to take your wives to "Les Miserables", taking her to "Parental Guidance" will put life and humor back into your marriages. Hated to see it end. Will not disappoint! My vote for "Best Picture"!

Since the BCS started in 1999, there have been 9 games involving a SEC team in the finals. The SEC has won all of'em.
