Challenge to our local media: Columbus has 3 LOST/SPLOST 1% sales taxes in
effect at the present. Theoretically, the original City LOST and the MCSD SPLOST
should have equal amounts annually (the 2nd City LOST does not apply to cars or
hotels and we get but 85% of the T-SPLOST revenues). Why is there discrepancy in
the annual figures as reported by the City and MCSD Board?
---
From the proponents of the Redevelopment Referendum website: "The monies can be used only in blighted areas to prepare land, build infrastructure like sewer or road systems, build parking decks or even amenities such as parks, schools or other necessary public structures to make the investment work." -- We already have a City LOST and SPLOST sales tax taking more than $40 Million annually out of our pockets for infrastructure and other transportation projects, and the School System/MCSD Board has its own $35+ Million a per year SPLOST tax to pay for school projects. These folks will never have enough if we don't "Just Say No!"

You know.. when I see pictures of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
wearing her crocheted collar, I envision her sitting in judgement of the Salem
Witch Trials...and the Witches win.

HuffPost "headlie": "Former North Carolina Mayor Sentenced For Corruption"
-- Wrong! He got sentenced for getting caught and being convicted of corruption.
---
Online headline: "NBC's Snyderman Faces Credibility Issues" -- And what's
the difference in her lack of credibility and every other NBC
anchor/reporter?
---
Instant repeat plus detail: "NBC's Snyderman Faces Credibility Issues" *
Snyderman, a surgeon who has been at NBC since 2006, covered the Ebola outbreak
in West Africa and worked briefly with Ashoka Mukpo, the cameraman who caught
the virus and is now being treated in Nebraska. * Snyderman and her crew
voluntarily agreed to quarantine themselves for 21 days, the longest known
incubation period for the disease * New Jersey health officials ruled that her
quarantine should be mandatory after Snyderman and her crew were spotted getting
takeout food from a New Jersey restaurant." -- Just liberal arrogance....
---
Another HuffPost "headlie": "Monica Lewinsky: I Was 'The First Person'
Whose Reputation Was Destroyed By The Internet" -- Wrong! First, she destroyed
her own reputation.... on network TV, not the I-net. Good grief.. she desecrated
the Office of the President AND the President's office!
---
You know.. Monica Lewinsky's claim of victimization does have a twinge of
legitimacy.. she was a victim of herself, a victim of personal opportunity, and
a victim of both the Clinton's "I can get away with anything" attitude.
---
Online headline: "Colorado Health Officials Want To Ban Almost All
Recreational Marijuana Edibles" -- Good grief.. the whole theory was to give
people what they wanted, regulate and tax it.. then decide that while all
marijuana is equal, some marijuana is more equal than others. Sorta like
the George Orwell's storyline.
---
Online story: "Christian ministers in Idaho have been told that they have
to either perform same-sex weddings or face jail time and fines. * Donald and
Evelyn Knapp, ordained ministers who own the Hitching Post Wedding Chapel in
Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, are facing legal trouble because they want to uphold the
laws of the Bible and support traditional marriage." -- This is judicial
activism at its absolute worst! No ordained minister should have to perform a
same sex wedding. On the other hand, why would a same sex couple want a biblical
based wedding ceremony... such would basically break the Commandment given
Moses that says, ""You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the
LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.". How about a
government civil service ?

Hmmm.. a familiar adage says,, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice,
shame on me." A second Carter is running for GA Governor.
---
Online story: "This week, Senate-seeking Democrat Michelle Nunn continued
the outsourcing drumbeat against Republican David Perdue by introducing a new
face into her television advertising: Roy Richards Jr., chairman of the board of
power cable manufacturer Southwire. * Ricards says, "When I hear David Perdue
say he’s proud to have outsourced jobs to other parts of the world, I have to
wonder. Every time we invest in Georgia workers, they can compete with anyone in
the world, so I don’t know how you can be proud to have sent American jobs
overseas.” * But according to the federal government, Southwire has shipped jobs
overseas." -- Democrats.. if their lips are moving.. lies are flying.

Oh! I wanna backtrack a bit on my assertion that the winner of the SEC
Championship game be declared the National Championships. Those top 4 out of 5
SEC teams are all in the SEC West so the West winner gets the title.
---
The balloon of rock star status of the 2008/2012 Obamageddon persona has
definitely burst. What was generally conceived as "base supporters" walked out
of his campaign speech in Maryland this weekend.
---
L-E story: " The Muscogee County School District is No. 1 in the state in a
dubious ranking, superintendent David Lewis announced at the end of Monday
night’s meeting. * “Our district lost $5.2 million in equalization funding, and
yet there are other districts who received almost $4 million or $5 million worth
of funding,” Lewis said. “The formula is — I think our delegation fully
recognizes that — the formula is flawed, in my opinion, and needs to be
addressed.” * Equalization is a formula that compares the relative property tax
wealth of all school districts per student. Some districts gain money and some
lose in the allocation. * “It’s just inherently wrong,” Lewis said." --
Hmmm..."Equalization is a formula that compares the relative property tax wealth
of all school districts per student. Some districts gain money and some lose in
the allocation" .. Hmmm ... "It’s just inherently wrong".. Good grief.. what's
obvious is that we property owners are over assessed and over taxed! Reduce the
taxes, and the MCSD will get what it considers its "fair" share. What's even
sadder is that our MCSD gets an extra 5 mils of property taxes (25 instead of 20
- 25% more) as most districts are allowed because of the Columbus Museum being
under the direction of the school system.
---
Sadder still is that the school taxes do not give homeowners the "homestead
exemption" and the MCSD collects more taxes than the City.
---
From a L-E story on a homeless "situation" on Columbus' RiverWalk: "“I
don’t have any plan to move them, I have a plan to house them permanently,”
(Mayor) Tomlinson said. “If I moved them they would just come back. For the
first time, somebody is going to do something about this problem . You think me
running them out of there will solve the problem and I don’t.” -- "house them
permanently"? If she wants to do that with her own money.. so be it, but, good
grief, if Mayor Obamalinson ever gets such a "facility" built, every public
housing tenant would be seeking asylum there. Compassion is about a "helping
people get back on their feet", not taking over people's lives.
---
L-E "soundoff": "The Army should let women go to Ranger school using
current policy with no mitigating standards to accommodate them. Ranger tabs are
earned and are not given for political correctness." -- Hey.. no problem with
this, but don't let'em "tee it up" from the "ladies' tees".
---
L-E story: " President Barack Obama cast his ballot Monday in Chicago as
Illinois began early voting for the Nov. 4 election." -- Hmmm.. wonder how many
Chicagoans were denied their opportunity to vote yesterday by the Secret Service
and traffic jams that precede and follow Obamageddon?
---
L-E headline: "Obama casts an early vote, won’t say for whom" -- Hmmm..
wouldn't say "for whom".... isn't that what that Kentucky Democrat is getting
grilled over?
---
L-E headline: "WHO declares Nigeria Ebola-free" -- Where are
Abbot&Costello when we need them.. is this headline not the perfect intro
for a 21st Century sequel for "WHO's on First"?
---
From the "it could only happen in America under government supervision"
department - L-E headline: "Suspected Benghazi attack mastermind pleads not
guilty" -- Hey,, it thought these guys were in a hurry to get their 72
virgins....
---
L-E's "Quotable": “There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle
or the mirror that reflects it.”
Edith Wharton American author (1862-1937)" -- Hmmm.. a woman who died before her time. If Solyndra could get $500+ Million in loans for "green energy" crap, imagine how many 100's of millions of dollars more Wharton could have gotten from Obamageddon..
Edith Wharton American author (1862-1937)" -- Hmmm.. a woman who died before her time. If Solyndra could get $500+ Million in loans for "green energy" crap, imagine how many 100's of millions of dollars more Wharton could have gotten from Obamageddon..
---
L-E editorial comment: " Todd Gurley is not the first, nor will he be the
last, college athlete to run afoul of NCAA regulations. And the sad thing about
cases like Gurley’s is that given some of the really nasty things of which other
college athletes have been accused (and sometimes convicted), getting a few
hundred dollars for writing your name is hardly a mortal sin." -- You know,
while I'm pleased that the L-E at least went softly went after the commercial
profiteers of the sports memorabilia industry. let's not confuse the instigating
factor .. had the NCAA football program never existed.. had the NCAA football
program pioneered TV exposure.. who would even know who Todd Gurley is? The Todd
Gurleys of America have not made the NCAA.---
---
Purely a local issue - The L-E ran what's basically an "op-ed" letter from
two of the newly elected, but won't be seated until January MCSD board members.
It's spot on. Too bad the third newly elected, not yet seated board member did
not sign on to the letter as well.
---
L-E headline: "Up to 1,000 potential jurors may be questioned for Boston
bombing trial" -- Good grief.. the founding fathers must be rolling over in
their graves if it takes polling 1000 Bostonians for 12 people who will convict
Bomber Brother #2, and sentence him to death.
---
L-E story: "Online comment of the day": “Ever notice that most crime in
and around Columbus, mostly happens after 11:00pm. Our parents must have known
that when they made that the curfew time. The world has changed when people get
attacked on their own porch.” — From “David Phillips” on Monday’s Sound Off
column." -- Hmmm collectable data shows this and tax dollars get spent on
Midnight Basketball....
---
L-E headline: "Experts say Carter’s school funding model untested" -- Good
grief! What difference does it make to liberals whether "an idea of good
intention" is tested.. much less whether it works or not?
