Hey, Mayor TomLYINGson...looking for more tax revenue? How about looking under your nose.. THe old Swift Denim Mill... the one at 1506 6th Avenue... it's assessed at over $4.3 MILLION , no homestead exemption, but only pays $3979.30 in property taxes. That's less than 1/1088 of assessed value. If my home were taxed at that percent, my taxes would be only $319.00 instead of $5,196.92. I guess it's because we aren't buddies..

Soapbox Moment:

Online story: "You can trick your whip all you want, but GM says that car is still theirs, no matter what you’ve paid. In a hearing this week, General Motors attorney Harry Lightsey said that purchasing and paying off your GM vehicle is a license agreement and not ownership. * The U.S Copyright Office is holding a hearing on whether anyone other than the vehicle’s manufacturer has the right to alter the that car’s copyrighted software. With modern design being what it is, this means almost altering anything about the vehicle. * Mechanics and private owners are saying they need to be allowed to make repairs on their vehicles to keep them running or maintain their business. But GM is saying that anyone unauthorized altering anything about the vehicle could create problems with the software and endanger the driver. This sounds more like a business ploy on the part of GM to hold a monopoly on vehicle repairs.

GM says you may own your car, but you don’t own the software, so don’t touch it!

GM’s claim is all about copyright and software code, and it’s the same claim John Deere is making about their tractors. The TL;DR version of the argument goes something like this:

Cars work because software tells all the parts how to operate
The software that tells all the parts to operate is customized code
That code is subject to copyright
GM owns the copyright on that code and that software
A modern car cannot run without that software; it is integral to all systems
Therefore, the purchase or use of that car is a licensing agreement
And since it is subject to a licensing agreement, GM is the owner and can allow/disallow certain uses or access."

This sounds pretty much like what Mercedes-Benz does..I bought a Mercedes vehicle for my bride in 2004..After the warranty ran out, there was very little my preferred private mechanics could do to repair/service it. I abhorred the local dealership's service department attitude. I vowed not to buy another MB. Just bought my bride a new  non-Mercedes vehilce.. glad I didn't buy one from GM.. I'm looking for one myself as wee.. it will not be a MB nor GM vehicle.. such policies will run independent mechanics.. you know.. the guy you trust with your safety, out of business...and end up a "number" working in a dealership service department. Oh... and I just "tossed" my John Deere hat and t-shirt..

It's been announced that NERO-bamageddon will not attend Justice Scalia's funeral today.. of course, first assumptions were that he had a golf game.. Not true... it's worse.. While the preists are conducting the service and comforting his family and the nation, NERO-bamageddon will be reading "poop" on who he will nominate to replace him.. Hey, NERO-bamageddon.. this could wait until the good man is actually buried.. in two words, "No Class"....or in one word, "Pathetic".

Online headline: "Hillary Clinton: 'I don't believe' I have ever lied" -- Only Hillary would answer a question about her lying.. with a lie.. Reminds me of a 3rd grader telling her teacher "my dog ate my homework", or a politician telling us she'd never e-mailed classified info via her personal server.

---
In an interview with Scott Pelley of CBS, Hillary was asked if she always told the truth. She responded that "I tried to". Good grief...you either do or you don't, but in Hillary's case, she'd been better off saying she lied all the time..so no one would believe her.

Yesterday morning, a Fox anchor cited an article/opinion from "The Onion". Good grief..fire her!

Online headline: "Trump calls for boycott until Apple unlocks shooter's phone" -- He's right.. if Apple can do this, then Apple should.. All Apple is doing now is using the "privacy" issue to hide that Apple can do this, and it means that Apple could already be doing this to anybody's iPhone, and that there is no privacy if an employee (or Democratic Party operative) decides to go rogue. Apple could be more invasive than the NSA!

---
Online headline: "President Obama jokes: 'We know it is Black History Month when ... " -- I know.. I know! When NERO-bamageddon reads about it in the newspaper!

---
'Online headline: "Otregon set to have highest minimum wage in country * Lawmakers passed a rate hike Thursday that would raise the minimum wage from $9.25 to $14.75 an hour by 2022." -- Hmmm.. and by 2012, Oregon will have the biggest unemployment/welfare figures in the country.. industry will be creating automated solutions, and slackers will be moving into Oregon by droves.

---
Online headline: "Sanders slams GOP for racism" -- Good grief.. this coming from a guy who wants to confiscate all the working people's incomes to pay fro the "free" stuff he's promising voters, yet panders to Al Sharlatan in spite that Sharlatan owes over $4 MILLION in back taxes. Whatta hypocrite!

I like Sheriff Darr...I believe he has handled the jail/Sheriff's duties admirably, and I will vote for him in his re-election bid in November.. I do not understand why he would publicly support a convicted tax fraud  in sentencing. I also don't understand why Marshal Countryman or either Congressman Bishop or his wife, Muni Court Clerk Vivian, did either, but I hope the Democrat voters treat all 4 the same in November.. bet they won't, but we'll see..

Obviously a Common CRAP curriculum graduate LIV's L-E "soundoff": " Can you tell me one thing that the Republicans like or support? Just one thing." -- In two words, "Our Constitution". In two more words, "Your Freedoms"!

L-E headline/story: "MUSCOGEE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD * SMALLMAN WON’T SEEK RE-ELECTION *     Smallman and her husband, Ernie, are real estate brokers with Coldwell Banker Kennon, Parker, Duncan & Davis. Smallman also manages the investments for her husband’s corporation, Whitewater Realty, which does commercial and residential business. *  Smallman and her husband own property in three of the four originally proposed TADs the Columbus Council has considered, she said. After researching the law and speaking to attorneys, she determined her position could be a conflict of interest." -- "speaking to attorneys"? Good grief.. this sorta explains why we have so little confidence in an elected school board.. who but a politician needs to consult an attorney about common sense and "doing  the right thing"?

You know.. I can find large SUVs in abundance, but finding a large sedan in nigh impossible unless you're going to spend 6-figures on one. Why don't American manufacturers learn they "can kill 2 birds with one stone" by making large sized sedans. It would reduce the number of large SUV's being sold to people who just want some room in their vehicle for their families to be comfortable.. and at the same time, a large sedan should get better mileage than a large SUV which would help them meet or exceed government MPG standards.
