From the 'only in California' department - Online headline/story: "SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A first-of-its-kind California law prohibiting licensed psychotherapists from counseling gay minors on how to become heterosexual faced its first legal test Friday as lawyers for those who support "reparative therapy" asked a federal judge to block the ban.

* Lawyers for the state argue the ban is appropriate because it seeks to protect young people from a practice that supposes an individual's sexual orientation should be changed instead of regarding homosexuality as a health part of the human experience." -- These people have 55 Electoral College votes. I guess government grants and entitlements are considered "Electoral College loans" they won't have to have to pay back.

---

Online headline: "President Obama Pushes Middle Class Tax Cut Pitch" -- Well if it's anything like his 'first pitch at a baseball game', it'll bounce like our government checks.

---

Congress's penchant for solving problems is simply kick the can further down the road rather address it head on and risk being defeated in the next election. One more good reason for term limits.

Passed on from a fellow BCer:

An old man was asked, "At your ripe age, what do you prefer to get - Parkinson's or Alzheimer's?"
Dude answered, "Definitely Parkinson's. Better to spill half an ounce of Jack Daniels, than to forget where you keep the bottle!!"

NASA scientists are now saying there are ice pockets on Mercury. They claim it can be 800 degrees Fahrenheit in one place and a crater next to that can be -300 degrees. I don't want to hear one more scientist claiming "we" are responsible for global warming here on Earth.

For a fundraiser, Washington could put on a production of "The Wizard of Oz". Cast would be Harry Reid & Nancy Pelosi as co-brainless Scarecrows, Hillary Clinton as the Wicked Witch, potUS Obluster as the cowardly Lion, anti-abortion for rape/incest victim Republicans as heartless the Tin Man, and the Occupy Wall Streeters as the Munchkins, and the Black Caucus as harpies. David Axelrod would play the Wizard.

---

John Yarmouth, D-KY, says Congress has discussed Social Security so as far as he's concerned it had been addressed. How do these people get credit for brains? Oh! I forget Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are his mentors.

Have you seen the list of possible 'Time" magazine "Person of the Year" cover? None are deserving if you talk about positive influence, but of the dozen or so, my favorite has to be Sandra Fluke... She's 32, still in school, wants the government pay her bills, and talks about her sluttiness as though she thinks she's reading a script for a role on Desperate Housewives.
---

The UN has again demonstrated its state of obliviousness to reality. Giving Palestine any level of legitimacy just adds fuel, possibly nuclear fuel, to the already unstable mid-east.
---

I've almost begun to resent toy drives put on by national organizations. Remember back in the 60's when there was a disaster in Asia, and out State Department announced "we" were sending loads of rice to help out? Well, the Communist Russians sent a boat load first, and told them more was on the way, so when 7 boats from the US arrived, the people gave credit to the Russians. I feel that way when charitable organizations fueled by Christian compassion give such gifts, and the recipients just assume it's just another 'givermint' program. Then these children will assume the 'givermint' will take care of their children, too. It's just a vicious, society destructive cycle.

From L-E story on the Mayor's real estate commission: (At least it's named properly, because it sure isn't anything the public has authorized) " Tax Allocation Districts (TADs) which require a referendum to be created, and local voters have already rejected the proposal in 2007. But it lost narrowly, 51-49 percent. A TAD allows the city to issue bonds in the name of a developer who wants to go into a blighted area. But the city would be under no legal obligation to repay the bonds should the developer fail, nor would the debt be counted as city debt." -- How convenient... the L-E calls it a narrow defeat when a project it supports loses, but called the same margin a landslide, a mandate, for potUS Obluster.

---

Liberal's L-E "soundoff": " Ah, yes, we liberals are “always on the wrong side of morality.” We favor relief for the suffering, food for the hungry, compassion for the poor, and equal opportunity for all. What’s your excuse? " -- Liberals have always been the johnny-come-late's on social issues. Long before there was government entitlement programs, the church communities created humanitarian aid from donations and church budgets. Liberals just feel if the government does such, they can claim credit for care and concern without dipping into their own pockets.

---
L-E story on Missouri lottery winners: "Mark Hill quit his job as a mechanic Thursday. His wife, who missed a scheduled job interview on the same day, has no plans to keep looking for work. " -- Now we know how voters for potUS Obluster 'feel'.... like they have hit the lottery and don't want jobs.

---

L-E's "Looking Back" feature: "Here’s one for the books: A union has voted for a wage reduction, rather than an increase. Union employes of the Moultrie plant of Swift & Co. voted approval of contract adjustments, including a five cent per hour wage reduction, in a move union and company spokesmen said is designed to assure continued plant operation" -- Well, just proves education was much better 50 years ago than what fids get today. Kids used to learn real math, and could add up reality.

L-E story: "ATLANTA — Authorities say they’re trying to recover more than 100 rifles stolen from a boxcar that was parked in an Atlanta train yard. * U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives spokesman Richard Coes tells The Associated Press that the weapons were taken from a CSX rail yard along Marietta Boulevard, on the city’s northwest side. * Coes said they include “AK-style” rifles. He declined to discuss other aspects of the case. " -- "declined to discuss other aspects of the case"? Who does he think he is, Attorney General Eric Holder? Guess the 'fast & furious' program has decided to 'drop ship' AK-47's where the Mexican drug gangs have established branch outfits.

One thing about the UGA-Bama game today is that both teams should be well rested and pretty much injury free. UGA hasn't played a real team since the Florida game, and Alabama hasn't played one since the Aggie game. I'm predicting UGA to win.

---

L-E headline: "Survey says Malzahn for next AU coach * Auburn grad conducts poll of Lee County citizens " -- Hmmm, wonder how he counted the votes... 0 & 1 for Malzahn, 0 & 2 for Malzahn, 0 & 3 for Malzahn, 0 & 4 .......

---

L-E headline: "STOCKS INCH LOWER AS INVESTORS AWAIT BUDGET " -- Oh! the 'fiscal cliff' will not even be a factor... investors will die first holding their breath waitying for a DUMBERat budget.

---

It's really odd, no, really a shame that the L-E is advertising for a VP of advertising from outside the McClatchy family. Guess locals already know it's a dead end job.

---

Another L-E ad strikes me just as insincere... on D5, the L-E says it is available 'on your doorstep, on your computer, on your phone'. I'd probably take the print edition if the L-E would deliver it to my doorstep rather than throwing in on my lawn.

---

L-E headline: "ABC to celebrate Dick Clark on New Year’s Eve " -- What is ABC going to do... drop his casket at midnight?

---

L-E comic strip:

The truth be told...
